Menu Plan Monday - Week of June 8

It's bachelor week at our house. I'm going to be out of town for most of the week. My oldest son is going to his college orientation and I didn't want him to have a nine hour drive by himself, so I'm going to visit my parents half way to his new college. My husband and youngest are holding down the fort here in town. All their favorites are on the menu.

Monday: Pork tenderloin sandwiches, chips, veggie & fruit
Carried over from last week

Tuesday: Bratwurst, chips, corn & fruit

Wednesday: Frozen pizza

Thursday: Pasta con Broccoli, Caesar salad, garlic bread
My youngest son's favorite meal. Mushrooms go on sale and this is what we have.

Friday: Breakfast as dinner, sausage patties, hash browns & eggs

Saturday: Hamburgers, veggie, fresh fruit

Sunday: Pork Chops, rice, green salad

If you would like more meal planning ideas, visit Menu Plan Monday at orgjunkie.com

Kmart Doubles Update

I just got back from Kmart and wanted to pass on a few deals I found.

Cutters Advanced Outdoorsman, 6 oz. was marked with a $5.29 price tag, but it rung up at $2.00. Kmart didn't even need to double the $2 coupon from 5/31/09 SS for FREE Cutters. This coupon will not be counted towards your 10 coupon doubled limit. I found this Cutters in the camping department.

Hot Shot bug killer is priced at $3.19. Use the $1.50 coupon from 6/7/09 SS for .19 bug killer. I didn't take this coupon with me, I don't know why. I need some to get rid of the wasps on the front porch. I'll be heading back to Kmart tomorrow. Save some for me!

What $5 Will Buy at Walgreens

Week of 6/7/09

I've saved a ton of money at Walgreens by rolling Register Rewards, but there is also a ton of things to remember when rolling them. I've listed a possible scenario to help give you some ideas.

I use Ramen noodles as a filler - number of coupons used cannot exceed number of items purchased. Sometimes. I can find a clearance item for even less money than Ramen noodles.

Take a look at this week's Walgreens coupon match-up for details on where to find the coupons.

:: Starting with no Register Rewards ::

Transaction #1
Purchase (2) Johnson's Baby Powder $2 - use (2) $1 coupons
= FREE + 1 Register Reward

Transaction #2
Repeat 1st transaction

Transaction #3
Purchase Kerasal lotion $7.99 - use $2 coupon
Purchase (2) Ramen noodles .58 (needed as filler)
Use (2) $1 Register Rewards from Johnson's Baby Powder
= $4.57 out of pocket

Transaction #4
Purchase (2) bags of Mars Minis, 10.5 or 11.5 oz $5
Use $5 Register Reward from Kerasal
= FREE + $1 Register Reward

Transaction #5
Purchase (2) Jell-o's $1.18 - use in-ad coupon
Use $1 Register Reward from Kerasal
= .18

Total purchased
4 small bottles of Johnson's Baby Powder
1 bottle of Kerasal lotion
2 bags of Mars candy
2 boxes of Jell-o
2 Ramen noodles

Price of merchandise before sales and coupons: $23.11
Total out of pocket $4.66 or 80% savings

Walgreen Deals - Reynolds Wrap, Mars Candy Bars + More

There are quite a few Register Rewards deals offered this week at Walgreens that I haven't included in this post. Lots a people ask me how I consistenly save 70% or better when shopping . I am able to do this by purchasing only the best deals. I just can't bring myself to pay over $1 for cereal, razors or shampoo when you can get them for less than $1 if you wait for the best deal

I highlight only the best deals. Take a look at Walgreens' full ad here.

Coupon Preview - Kellogg's Cereal, Macaroni Grill, Bounty + More

Sunday's 6/7/09 , St Louis Post Dispatch has Three coupon inserts -Redplum, SmartSource and P&G.

I love coupons for new products, and there are several this week. Companies launch new products by offering coupons and special pricing. This makes for great deals on new items.

Some of my favorite coupons this week:
  • $5 Miracle Cream - I hope Walgreens puts this on sale
  • $2 Bic Disposable Razors
  • $2 Gillette Clinical Strength Deodorant - new product
  • $1.50 Hot Shot bug killer - perfect for the wasp nest on the front porch
  • $1.25 Dove Visibly Smooth - new product
  • $1 Kellogg's Mini Wheats, Rice Krispies or Crispix
  • $1 Kellogg's All-Bran, Special K or Raisin Bran
  • $1 Kellogg's sugar cereals
  • $1 Tyson Skillet Creations Meal Kit - new product
  • $1 Macaroni Grill Dinner Kit - a family favorite
  • $1 Colgate Total - always a chance to be a money-maker at Walgreens
  • $1 off 2 BOCA Meatless products - some people think all coupons are for junk food
  • $1 any Playtex Gentle Glide
  • $1 Playtex Sport
  • .25 Bounty - Dierbergs puts single roll of Bounty on sale for $1 or less often
Remember: You want multiple coupons to use when a product is at a rock bottom price. When it's good coupon insert week, I purchase 4 or 5 papers and sometimes acquire more. At first, I thought it was crazy to spend money to save money. But I've always saved much more than my $1 investment.

DEAL$ sells the Sunday Post Dispatch for $1. The early edition is published on Saturday and it includes all the coupon inserts. They usually have the Sunday paper left around on Monday also. Find the DEAL$ closest to you here.

Kmart - Double Coupon Deals

Kmart is doubling coupons, up to $2, in the St Louis area (Missouri & Illinois) the week of June 6th.

Check out your local ad if you live elsewhere. If your Kmart is doubling coupons, it is advertised on the lower right corner of the ad.

The "rules" change a bit every time Kmart doubles coupons. Here are this weeks guidelines:
§ Manufacturer Coupons up to and including a $2 value
§ Does not include Kmart Store Coupons
§ Does not include Kmart Pharmacy Store Coupons
§ Does not include copies of manufacturer coupons
§ Limit 10 total coupons per customer per day
§ Limit 4 like coupons

I only shop at Kmart when they are doubling coupons. I don't have much advice, but here is what I've experienced:

  • I have seen many products at Kmart long past their use by date. Check every product you want to purchase.
  • Coupons for multiple items ($1 off 2) might not double for the entire amount. I stay away from those coupons if the cost of one item is less that than doubled coupon.
  • Kmart doesn't always mark their sale items. Check the prices at the price check scanner in the aisle.

I Saved 85% This Week

I thought it would be harder to stay within my grocery budget when the good fresh fruits and vegetable became available, but so far so good. I'll have to see what the rest of the summer brings.

I picked up eight packages of sandwich buns at Dierbergs this week. I had lots of Sara Lee coupons about to expire and couldn't pass up 50 cent buns. I've never frozen bread products before, but I know lots of people do. I hope we like them after being frozen.

I even have enough left in my grocery budget this week for my husband and I to take advantage of TGI Fridays B1G1 entree offer.

Walgreens - Hair Dryer for $2.99

Pick up a new hair dryer at Walgreens for $2.99 after Register Rewards.

The Revlon Ionic Styler 1875 watt dryer is on sale for $12.99 ($21.99 regular price) and is giving out a $10 Register Reward.

The dryer is pink and has a pink breast cancer ribbon printed on the front of the box. (A portion of the proceeds form the sale of the dryer will be donated to cancer research.) I found the dryer with a display in the cosmetic area, there was no indication it was on sale or giving out a Register Reward.

Thanks Jennifer, for leaving a comment on the Walgreens post about this deal.

If you haven't shopped at Aldi, or it has been a while:
1. Make sure you have a quarter to unlock a shopping cart. The carts are like luggage carts at the airport. You rent them for a quarter, and you get your quarter back when you return the cart.
2. Take your own bags. Aldi does not provide free bags for your groceries.
3. Aldis now accepts debit cards.
4. Aldis does not accept coupons.
