Menu Plan Monday - Week of 12/7/09

Every week, I plan my menu with what I have in the pantry, fridge and freezer. So each week's grocery list is what I can buy for a great price, and I don't worry about how I'm going to use it.

Last week I got fresh spinach, yeast, a Boboli shell and chocolate chips for free. So, they are on the menu this week. I can't say I've ever used fresh spinach before and I'm not a baker, but I'm going to see if the family likes spinach salad and try my had at making homemade rolls. I won't have any problem figuring out what to do with the chocolate chips.

Monday: Tacos, refried beans

Tuesday: Dinner salads with crispy chicken, mandarin oranges and Chinese noodles.

Wednesday: Pot Roast, carrots and potatoes, biscuits

Thursday: Chili, corn bread

Friday: Clean out the fridge - there should be plenty of leftovers

Saturday: BBQ Chicken pizza, (I'm use a Boboli shell & skipping the peppers), spinach salad

Sunday: Ham, baked potatoes, green beans, homemade dinner rolls

• $2 off any (1) Snuggle Liquid Fabric Softener or Dryer Sheets - Again, on sale this coming week at Walgreens, $3.5o for 32 loads. Makes it less than .05 per load after coupon


• $1 off Fisher Nut product - Dierbergs has Fisher Nuts on sale through Monday. They have sales on Fisher products often - especially their snack nuts. As a bonus, this coupon has a 6/30/09 expiration date.


• $1 off any McCain Purely Potatoes -I'll be looking for a good sale to promote this new item from McCain.


• $1 off M&M's Premium Chocolate Candies - Walgreens has these on sale with a Register Reward deal this coming week.


• $1 off 2 packs of Rayovac Alkaline Batteries - Target sell these in the Dollar Spot. It works out to .25 per battery.


• .40 on Fleischmann's Yeast - Schnucks has had these on sale often for $1.29; makes them cheap after the coupon is doubled.


• Several Scotch Tape products coupons - We rarely get the Scotch coupons in St Louis. I'm excited to see what great deals will come up with these coupons.

Remember: You want multiple coupons to use when a product is at a rock bottom price. When it's a good coupon insert week, I purchase 4 or 5 papers and sometimes acquire more. At first, I thought it was crazy to spend money to save money. But I've always saved much more than my $1 investment.

DEAL$ and Dollar Tree sell the Sunday Post-Dispatch for $1. The early edition is published on Saturday and it includes all the coupon inserts. And they usually still have Sunday papers left on Monday. Find the Deal$ or Dollar Tree closest to you.

I was excited Entertainment Books were on sale again this week. I love trading my Register Rewards for Shop 'n Save coupons in the Entertainment book. And, with the Ecotrin money-maker I was able to pick up Ziploc Freezer bags with the overage. Thanks goodness - I was out of them, and it's hard to stock up on meat for the freezer without them.

I should bookmark this picture and refer to it when I get emails questioning my purchases. Some weeks, if I can't find any veggies at a good price, I don't buy any. I understand the concept of stocking up looks odd to people who don't shop that way, and why they are concerned about my family's health, but I always have veggies in the pantry or freezer.

I wasn't impressed with what Shop 'n Save was advertising this week and hadn't planned on shopping there, but I did want to pick up some Tyson Crispy Chicken - I love the product for a quick meal. I only take the coupons I'm going to use, a few high value coupons, a few family favorites, and any free product coupons with me. I usually don't put together a very good shopping trip on the fly, but this week it worked.

From 9-noon, kids can build a Wagon at Home Depot's FREE Kids Workshop "How to Clinic." This clinic is designed for children ages 5-12. No preregistration necessary, just show up between 9 and noon.

In addition to the constructed project kit, each child receives a child-sized orange Home Depot apron and an achievement pin.

If your Schnucks is out of spinach, no problem - ask for a rain check. Schnucks' rain checks are valid for a month after the issue date and this coupon is good through 1/7/09.

I love rain checks on this type of perishable product. (Well, maybe it isn't totally perishable. I have a friend who throws the bag of spinach in the freezer and uses it later in cooking.) When there is this good of deal, I like to stop at the store on the last day of the sale - hoping they are out. I head right over to Customer Service to get my rain check. I let the store store my groceries for a week or two.

Print your coupon for $5 off 4 Kellogg's Cereals, 10 oz. or larger, any flavor, mix and match.

This coupon is on the Target web site, but it is a manufacturer coupon. The only reference to Target is a small Target logo and their web address. You should be able to use it at any retailer who accepts coupons.

Target has made many changes to their printable coupons. Besides, now, using a coupon printing program, they limit the number you can print, and the most confusing part of the change - some of the coupons are Target coupons and some are manufacturer coupons. There is no way to tell which ones are Target coupons and which are manufacturer coupon until you print them.

Couponing to Disney has published a Master List of Target Printables. Check it out; it's quite impressive and makes trying to figure out what you want to print a bit easier.
