Target Deals - Week of 6/05/11

My husband and I were in Minneapolis this past weekend helping my son move.  And, of course, a move is not possible without a trip to Target. 

The Target close to campus wasn't a very big - probably the size of the old Hampton Store, before they tore it down to build the new bigger one.  The grocery aisles were wide enough to get two shopping carts going opposite directions in at the same time, and they had fresh fruits and veggies and fresh meat. 

The store we were at wasn't the full blown Super Target, but a small store with all the product lines.  I would much rather shop at that size store than the huge stores Target  has built in the  St Louis area where it takes a 10 minute walk from the parking lot and a 20 minute walk to the department you want to shop.

Walgreens Field Notes - Week of 6/05/11

Grrrrr! Those Extra Care Bucks are…. Lost!?!

It’s like losing cash and can be a real frustration for any couponer because CVS and their Extra Care Bucks (ECBs) make for tremendous savings. Because they print at the bottom of the receipt, without proper attention it’s easy to toss them out when emptying a handbag of miscellaneous receipts.

St Louis couponers rejoiced when CVS entered the market just over a year ago, and now they may be shouting from the rooftops again. Why? Lost ECBs can be retrieved!

Recently, CVS updated the Extra Care Bucks portal on their website, now keeping a tab of eligible ECBs that have not been redeemed. So, for any couponer who has lost their ECBs they can now relax and navigate over to CVS.com, log in, then click the Extra Care Card icon at the top of the page. From there, click the Extra Care Coupons & Rewards tab to view ECBs active on the account and also print them.

How to Save Money on Gas

With gas prices showing no sign of lowering anytime soon, it’s hard not to be constantly strategizing about how you can save money on gas.

But believe it or not you can actually cut down a majority of your gas costs by simply driving the speed limit; in fact, your car could be using as much as 20 to 30 percent more gas just to drive at 70 miles per hour instead of 50 miles per hour, so keep this in mind the next time you want to put the petal to the metal.

There are also numerous ways you can save money on gas that are related to the maintenance of your vehicle by making sure it runs properly at all times. Be sure to check your tire pressure on a weekly basis, (if your tires are five pounds underinflated you will end up using 30 percent more gas), and replace your air filter to improve your gas mileage.

And if you are truly serious about saving on gas money, then you wouldn’t use your AC at all. However with the hot summer season slowly approaching this may be more difficult depending on where you live. If you do have to use your AC, then make sure you turn it off five minutes before you park your car, or try switching your air conditioner to an “economy” or “recirculation” setting to cut down on costs.

Also if you can, try parking your car in the shade because the gas in your tank will actually evaporate if your car is going to be sitting in the sun for longer periods of time. If you absolutely have to, then park your car so it’s facing away from the sun.

You could also cut down on gas costs by removing any unnecessary or heavy items from your car trunk, as an extra 100 pounds in your vehicle can actually reduce your MGP by 2 percent. If you own a truck, some say if you force your tailgate down you can get more gas mileage, however this is disputable.

If all else fails and you still finding yourself struggling to gather enough money to pay for gas, it may be a good idea to think about taking public transportation or carpooling with your family co-workers so you can not only save money on gas costs, but do your part in saving the environment too.

Pizza Hut Fundraiser to Benefit Tornado Relief Fund - Monday June 6th

Pizza Hut Resturants across a four state area (Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas) will hold a fundraiser to benefit the United Way Pizza Hut Tornado Relief Fund on Monday, June 6th.

15% of all Dine-In, Carryout and Delivery sales on June 6th will go to the United Way Pizza Hut
Tornado Relief Fund to assist the victims in various communities, such as Joplin, MO; Reading,
KS; Chickasha, OK and Strawberry, AR.

Everyone that eats at any participating Pizza Hut in the states of Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma or Arkansas on Monday, June 6th will add to the contributions.
