My Splurge fund is the amount of money I haven't spent out of grocery budget. I might spend it on groceries, or I might save it for a larger non-grocery purchase.
One of the goals or resolutions for me this year is to learn how to use coupons. Do you have any starter tips or anything that might be useful. I think one of the ways that would help me if I had someone actually come with me and show me how to do this. One of the reasons I would like to learn, is to help the food pantry at my church. Thank you for your input.
ReplyDeleteMy best advice is three easy concepts.
Delete1. Set on a budget
2. Menu plan from what you have at home
3. Buy what you can get the best price on
Of course you will need some coupons. I buy/aquire one insert per week per person in my family - unless it's a really good week for food coupons, and then I might buy a few more.
Great haul! We spent a total of $42.48 this week, split between Shop 'n Save, Dierbergs and Target. There's a good Activia yogurt deal at Target if you happen to have printed the right coupons: there was a $2/2 Activia four-packs printable at Target's website recently, and when you combine it with two of the $1 manufacturer's coupons from this weekend's SmartSource or the $1 printable manufacturer's Q that disappeared a couple weeks ago, you can get two four-packs for a total of 38 cents (the four-packs are normally priced at $2.19). Target also carries Reach floss for .97 and a 10-pack of Bic ballpoint pens for $1, which makes them both free if you have those recent $1 coupons for each product.
ReplyDeleteGreat deals! Thanks for the Target updates.
DeleteWhich Schnucks have the beggin stips for $1? I went to two of them today (Manchester Rd and Clayton Rd) and had no luck.
ReplyDeleteThe Schnucks at Manchester and Brentwood had Beggin Strips last week. The Affton store on Gravois and the one at Ladue/170 reportedly are also good places to find them.
ReplyDeleteWhat deal did you get on Finish at CVS?
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa - Finish was on sale for $3.50 at CVS last week. I used the $2.15 coupon from 1/1/11 SS - making them $1.35 per box.
DeleteNot as good as the last few years when you could pick up Finish free this time of year. But, I have a feeling those days are over.
