Saved 84% This Week

After some ho hum deals this summer, I was getting a little concerned that the fantastic deals were not going to surface this fall like they did last year. The grocery stores have put my concern to rest.

Shop 'n Save
This was another great week at Shop 'n Save. I shopped twice on $10 off $50 Thursday. The first time checking out, I had enough Catalina coupons that I didn't even need to use a $5 off $50 coupon from the Entertainment Book. I did use one on my second shop. And as a nice surprise, a $5 coupon for Bar S products came in Thursday's mail. I don't have any idea how I got on their mailing list, but I'm not complaining.

Before sales & coupons: $159.50
Spent: $7.05
Saved: $152.45 for a 96% savings

Schnucks
It's unusual that there are fantastic deals at two grocery stores in the same week, but boy, there were this week. The $1 overage per bag of Purina One pet food helped me keep my out of pocket to a minimum. I knew I was at my budget, and even though I wanted to pick up more of the GM Catalina deals, I called it quits for the week. I'm planning on getting back to Schnucks this weekend before the Catalina deal is over.

Before sales & coupons: $41.15
Spent: $2.12
Saved: $39.03 for a 95% savings

CVS
I don't get to CVS as often as I would like. Until the new store opens in my area, they are not the most convenient for me. I had ECB's expiring this week, so I was extremely happy when the $4 off $20 CVS coupon appeared. I started with $12 in ECB's and ended with $23. All in all, a very good week at CVS.

Before sales & coupons: $40.00
Spent: $2.46
Saved: $37.54 for a 94% savings

Walgreens

Before sales & coupons: $28.05
Spent: $2.36
Saved: $25.69 for a 92% savings

Aldi
Comparable Schnucks price: $15.31
Spent: $9.25
Saved: $6.06 for a 40% savings

Target
This was the big hit to my budget . I don't know why toilet paper is one of the hardest items to get a really good price on - at least the brands my family will use.

Before sales & coupons: $40.98
Spent: $39.48
Saved: $11.50 for a 28% savings

Weekly Totals
Before Sales & coupon: $324.99
Spent: $52.72

Saved: $272.27 for a 84% savings

Year to Date Totals
Spent: $1,521.04
($40 weekly average)
Saved: $4,924.58 ($130 weekly average)

Splurge Funds: $14.84

For those who don't read my blog on a regular basis, my splurge funds are the difference between what I've actually spent and my $50 budget. I use it for those items I never find on sale or that I don't have coupons for.

  1. Costco is where we find the best prices on paper products. They do not accept mfr coupons but do send their own coupons out averaging coupon book good for 3 weeks then no coupons for a week. I have saved the $50 membership many tomes over already this year, mostly on diapers and wipes, but on toilet paper as well!

  3. Jeri,

You turned me onto Kahiki and I have so been waiting for a sale. I stocked up too. Their stuff is so good. Thanks. And, yes, toilet paper is the budget killer. At least we are not brand picky just ply picky. And, no Cottonelle. Just doesn.t seem to last. Great shopping as always. Have a good weekend.

  4. I had to buy TP this week too. I hate buying it b/c its so much expense all at once. Did the register not want to take the Target coupon? The cashier almost wouldn't take them.

Then when I got home I got a mailer with PG coupons and had one for Charmin. BLAST!

  5. Thanks, Costco shopper! I used to shop at Sam's when the kids were in diapers. But haven't had a membership since. I'm not sure the membership cost would be worth it to me now, but my neighbor has offered to pick anything up at Sams that I might need. I'll have to ask her to check the price of TP.

  6. Hi Debbie - Hope you're feeling better soon. I gave up the binder method because I couldn't keep up with it. Now, I just put the date on the front of the insert and file and clip when I put my grocery list together.

  7. Hi Rhonda - I haven't heard of anyone who's tried Kahiki that doesn't love it. I'm tempted to get back to SNS today to buy more.

  8. Hi Marcella - I had no problem using the Target coupon with a manf. coupon.

I haven't had a problem at Target with coupons since I printed their coupon policy and carry it with me. Having a printed copy has been like insurance for me. I've never had to pull one out.

  9. Bought the TP also. Couldn't resist the price per roll. I think we could use the receipt from this on some kind of P&G rebate where we can get their Savings/coupon Mailer/booklet like what Marcella received. :I

  10. Hi All--WTG Jeri on your shopping this week. I stocked up on TP when there was overage from the Dentyne gum at Wags. The Charmin was $2.99 that week and overage was $2.36 wyb 8 gums =) so $.63 per 6 pk and I used RRs to pay =)

Also I have stocked up on TP at SNS on 10/50 days-I save All high value/Free coupons for these days to get me close to the $35 mark with the extra -5/50 coupon this is very close to $15 in free stuff re: TP or I do my kitty litter or any other items we are needing at the moment that you cannot get close to free. HTH =)

  11. Hi coupon.girl - Thanks for the reminder about the P&G coupon offer. I need to start an envelope to keep my receipt with P&G products on them in.

Hi Janet - I've done both in the past, just haven't had enough RR or coupons for freebies lately. Oh well, I should be stocked up for awhile.

  12. ohhhhh, I'm so envious of people who can do the insert-by-date method, I know it SOUNDS (and for most it is) the easiest and so straight-forward, but I always get confused, then I have my stacks to keep up w/and the expireds and ughhh, I think it's more like a personality type thing (some can deal w/it and some can't)...but I'm not complaining, lol these days I'm lucky to keep track of the 'free' coupons I get in the mail. Every year, I say I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that, and then I either don't or I don't keep up w/it, which are all just as bad. Never fear...this, too, shall pass :)
