I prefer to mix cool water with either oatmeal or farina and cook till done, instead adding the product to boiling water. Note that cooked Cream of Wheat looks like instant grits. However, while one can add milk, cream, sugar, butter/oleo and even cinnamon to regular Cream of Wheat, generally grits are top with butter/oleo and than seasoned with salt and pepper. Now a real grit luver will be asking for red-eye gravy.

Hi Maureen - I haven't had Cream of Wheat since I was a kid either. I grew up in Iowa and on the cold winter mornings no mother would send a kid off to school without first serving hot cereal. I had lots of Cream of Wheat.
