  1. I still haven't started shopping at CVS, but the free toothpaste might be enough to get me there. (Why has all the free toothpaste disappeared from Walgreens? It used to be free like every other week!)

I know you need a CVS card. Where do you get one? At the register when you are checking out? Or do I need to get it before I start shopping? And how do the limits work? If the limit is two, can you buy two at the same time?

I couldn't find a "beginner's guide" on your blog, though I know you had one when the stores opened up here in STL.

  2. Hi em - I was just thinking about toothpaste when putting the Walgreens match-ups together. "Enough of the Men's Body Wash, I'm going to need toothpaste."

The best place I've found for a CVS primer is at I Heart CVS.

    http://www.iheartcvs.com/2008/03/cvs-for-newbies.html

Stop at the register and pick up a CVS card application before you shop. You'll want your card first because you'll want to scan it a the "Magic Coupon Machine" before you start shopping.

Limits are easy to deal with. With the toothpaste, buy them at the same time and get back a $4 ECB. But, you can buy one and get the $2 ECB and turn right around and use it to pay for your second tube. They will even reduce the ECB if your pruchase is a few cents short of the ECB amount.

No coupon count to worry about or fillers needed at CVS.

    I know you'll love CVS.

  3. Just got back from CVS. For those who got the IP coupons: Planters Flavor Grove Almonds 6 0z is on sale for $2.50 (regular price is $3.49 at CVS and $3.99 at Wags). Welchs Grape juice 64 0z is on sale for $3 (forgot to check the regular price). The IPQ for Planters I got before is $1.50 and for Welchs is a $2. Makes almonds and Welchs grape juice a $1 each after coupons. Hope this helps someone who got the coupons. And CVS machine spits out $1 coupon off (2) American Greetings card.

Will post more about my shopping trip later. Preparing to go out for Father's Day. :)

Happy Father's Day especially to all fathers who "understand" wives crazy couponing thing. :)

  4. Btw, these sale prices I saw at Hampton cor Gravois CVS. There were yellow shelf tags under them that say good thru June 20-June 26. And oh, the store is still out of the Gillete razor. We were already almost out of the CVS vicinity when I remembered and I asked hubby to turn around the car so I can run inside to get a raincheck for it. I could still hear hubby's "DAMN!". hehehe:). He can't complain I got him (2) packs of almonds and a gal. of milk. ;)

  5. Last week a guy walked into CVS as I was checking out and said "Where can I get one of those red cards so I can start saving a bunch of money?" Ah a man after my own heart! Today I got Welchs, 2 Bush beans, a lounge chair, Blade 5 razor (raincheck), Colgate, Zegerid, and CVS ibuprofen. Paid $14 after $24 in coupons/ECBs and got $14 ECB back. Got double ECBs on the razor - $7 from the original offer and another $1 because its on ECB this week also.

  6. Does anyone know which CVS or Walgreens sell entertainment books? I'm running out of SNS coupons and can't seem to find them at the stores I go to.

Magic coupon machine spit out $2 off bounty coupons for me today. They are on sale this week too. It's actually a pretty decent deal.

Look in your store's clearance section for clearance Gillette Fusion ProGlide Gamer razors. I found two at my store for $5.74 clearanced. I asked the clerk if they would produce the $4.00 ECB and she told me they should, so I got one with my $4 coupon and it didn't print the ECB, but she took my card and made it print for me. Nice moneymaker!!

  7. Go to entertainment web site and if available, the local 2010 booklet is $9.99 plus s&h. I can't get one in the basket; so you may need to call the 800#. My extra books were the result of a SnS screw up on cats last year.

Good deal on milk over at the Columbia, IL store. Buy a gallon of 2% @$2.69 and receive a $1.00 ECB, limit 2.

  8. Thanks for the link to I Heart CVS, Jeri. I don't know why I didn't think to look there. I look at I Heart Wags from time to time.

I might have to try it out tomorrow. Do the STL stores usually run out of the freebies early in the week like some Walgreens?

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hi em - Sometimes CVS does run out of the freebie items early in the week. They get a truck I think on Thursday and do restock many sale items. If you go and they are out, make sure you ask for a raincheck. ECB's are attached to raincheck, so you still get the good some other week.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Thanks, good to know about the rain checks. I went there this morning and got my card and free toothpaste. They were so nice there, I will definitely go back!

  11. Hi em - Glad you liked CVS. It's so refreshing to have coupon friendly cashiers.

  12. My CVS in Illinois had the ECB on milk also. Plus if you buy 5 before July 24 you get 1 free. They also still had 1 mega pack of Huggies for $4.49-$3cpn= $1.49 for a mega pack! I bought several a few weeks ago for this price, didn't think I would find anymore though. They also had Snuggies for $3.74. I bought 2 just for fun!

    ReplyDelete
  13. wish there were more CVS *sniffle*

  14. What I like about CVS is that the cashiers are excited for you when you use coupons and get ECB on your receipt. They applaud your effort and try to help newbies get the best deals.

Walgreens should take some courses from CVS employees on how to be nice.

  15. Hi Tiffany - Thanks for passing on the milk deal at the IL CVS. Wish we could get milk deals here in MO. Hope you enjoy your Snuggie - just the thoughts of it right now make me break out in a sweat.

Hi Marcella - CVS is doing better finacially than Walgreens. Nobody who shops both places as to wonder why.

  16. Cvs is the best for free stuff and good deals on toalet paper, pizza, shampo makeup and MILK !!! If you spend the same money you spend on Milk every week on your freebies and then use the bunes $$ for the milk. You will be saving ALOT. The best is that the helpers smile when you bring in 20 coupons...I love the get $5 of 15...and get money back. My Cvs in IL had Alcoholic drinks marked
    - % 75 of plus a rebate!!!

  17. Hi Anonymous - I agree, you can't beat CVS for deals.

  18. Hi :) I am new to using coupons...so of course, I am happy to have come across this site :)
But, uh, what is an "ecb"?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hi Anonymous - Welcome! ECB's are Extra Care Bucks. When you purchase items that are advertised as ECB deals you will get a ECB coupon on the bottom of your receipt. The coupon is for $ off your next purchase. Use these ECB's to purchase anything in the store except the few exclusions listed on the coupon - tobacco, liquor ect.

The best primer I've found for CVS is at I Heart CVS - http://www.iheartcvs.com/2008/03/cvs-for-newbies.html

    Have fun shopping at CVS!

  20. Also, I have visited a bunch of sites since 6/22/10...which was my first day (TOTALLY hooked!)which allowed me to print a bunch of coupons at home if anyone is interested:
    www.georginesaves.com
    www.clipmycoupon.com
    www.thecouponclippers.com
    www.coupondad.net
    www.couponheaven.com
You guys probably already have these though... :)
You know, I have gathered coupons from weekly ads that showed up in my mailbox this week, and I have collected coupons from various sites (such as those listed above), and now I am just looking over the store ads...which is how I came across this blog...and I plan to start buying the Sunday paper (for coupons)and contacting manufacturers via email to see if they offer coupons...
Most of the coupons I have are for $1 off, and a few are for $4 off...but most of them say "no doubling", "limit 1 coupon per purchase", or "no other coupon may be used with..." this makes things a little confusing for me...cause I am not sure how people get things for free w/coupons yet...it's going to take a while to get the hang of it I guess. I found that even after all the searching/clipping for certain products--that I can just purchase them for less if I get the store brand; an example is Advil...even with the coupons(excluding AdvilPM, which was a good deal w/coupons)...Walgreens brand 1000 ct Ibuprofin comes out to be $2.00 per 100...much less than Advil with combo of coupons totalling $8.00 off (3 dif coupons) for bottle of 120...especially since one of the coupons indicates tha I also have to buy a Thermocare product (probably $3.00)...I was going to use the coupons for Advil until I looked at the list of store products/prices.

*Also, Walgreens has BOGO on 15oz Fruits of the World...2/$15 and $1.00 off Chapstick printable coupon...still $1.49 after coupon though...

Found New Right Guard coupons @ SmartSource for $1.00, rightguard.com for $3.00, and coupons.com for $1.00...but have to buy 2...

And for those that want to get Costco card...there is a printable coupon for over $50.00 worth of products given to new members(free 48 pk "AA" batteries, free Kirkland Signature 2 lb bag of coffee, etc. are listed as a couple of these products)...membership is $50.00 for 1 year, and printable coupon is good through 6/30/10(think I found it at www.coupondad.net).

and for anyone w/kids, found BOGO "Littlest Pet Shop Collectible Pets" coupon @ coupons.com

    Mary :)

  21. oops...probably not a good thing to post Walgreen info on CVS site...uh, they were not great deals anyway :/

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Mary - It's fun to see the excitement of a new couponer. It can be overwhelming at first, but pick up the best deals each week and you'll soon build up a nice stockpile.

Follow blogs that post the coupon-match ups and focus on the best deals each week. Make sure to ask questions. Couponers are a friendly bunch of people.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Mary - welcome to the wonderful world of couponing! It can be overwhelming and confusing at first. Just start slow and do one deal here and there to get the hang of it all. I agree that some things like medications are cheaper buying the generic. But name brand items like toothpaste and body wash are so easy to get for free. Good luck and you'll find lots of help here and on other sites.

  24. I made a quick lunch break run to CVS - travel size Tresemme shampoo and CVS wipes, Whin Thins and Chex Mix for .49 OOP after coupons and a $1 ECB and got a $1 ECB back for my bag tag.
