  1. I clicked the link and looked over the page. Doesn't P-D have a flunky that can proofread before throwing material up on the web. One can constantly read a comment section and readers are mocking the P-D staff on spelling errors.

  2. Hi kas - My husband is always pointing out the errors in the Post-Dispatch. I'm even starting to catch them.

Thank goodness, my readers are kind about typos, spelling mistakes and grammar errors, but then again, I didn't go to J-School.

  3. The only thing I'm concerned about is some fine print in the ad where it says tax is included (good), but then it says the "delivery" cost for the Sunday is .50, but you can avoid that by picking up the paper. I don't know if that's included....and I don't want to pick up my paper. So if it's $1.49 for Sunday (with the delivery cost) not such a great deal for me. I'm going to call and find out b/c my husband is getting tired of going to deal$ for me. He looked really funny coming home with 16 papers on 6/6. He rolled his eyes at me and grumbled "this couponing thing is kinda out of hand." But honey, baby needs a clean bum for free!!!

  4. Hi Couponmama - I'm reading the fine print as the delivery cost is included because to avoid delivery cost you only pay only .51 for the Sunday if you pick it up the newspaper yourself. But, I could be reading it wrong.

  5. Back to what I wrote about yesterday about the P-D. When carrier routes were privately owned, there was a delivery charge. Purchasing and operating a van ain't cheap. The constant upping of a paper price immediaitely cause cancellations, except you generally spend the same on gas and your van goes through the same wear and tear.

Years back, my brother worked as a subcontractor for a branch manager. He dropped off papers at stores, boxes and street vendors. When the P-D purchased this route, their offer to him was the same pay without covering medical benefit plan, which the branch manager had provided.

The bottom line is that at one time the P-D geberated enough revenue to support anyone working in the printing plant, carriers and others in the supply chain. So I guess the money is now flowing up to Iowa.

  6. Hi kas - How interesting. I grew up in Iowa. I think the Quad-Cities Times was the origianl Lee Enterprise paper. I neve knew anyone who read that paper.

  7. A few years ago, when I started the Couponing thing - I signed up for a similar deal with PD. After the first year, the price goes up to higher than you would pay in the store. They only offer this to NEW customers. I went through hoops to get my subscription cancelled - she just couldn't understand why I wouldn't pay close to $1.75 a week for the paper to be delivered. It was a pain - I am now going back to Deals.
(It was nice for that year to have it delivered, though)
Also, if you get multiple papers you will still have to go to the store for the extras.....

  8. I've had a subscription for a few years and am paying around $8.50 every 5 weeks just for Sunday. I should cancel and just pick up the paper at Dollar Tree or Walgreens every Sunday, would be cheaper.

  9. Hi CJ and Andrea - I agree the "regular" price for the paper is outrageous. After one of these promotions, you have to either cancel or renegotiate the pirce.

  10. I have heard of other cities doing a "couponer's" subscription, which includes the Sunday paper and extra (maybe 3) copies of the inserts. I would love it if PD or BND would do that!

  11. Hi JenZin - Wouldn't that be nice!

  12. Well I called in today. I was going to purchase multiple subscriptions if they let me, because it's worth the inconvenience to me to cancel after the first year if I need to, because the nearest deals or dollar store is a decent distance from our house, and the other places to get the paper are a lot more expensive.

They will only let you get one paper on this promo per household. I told them that's fine, I'll go get my papers at the dollar store because it would have been cheaper.

  13. Hi couponmama - Print media is hurting all over the country. You would think they would see an opportunity and run with it.
