Earlier in the week, I posted about the Try Me for Free Rebate on Schick Hydro 3 or 5 Razors. The fine print on the rebate states "Not valid in combination with any other offers."
The has been some discussion in the blogworld on what "not valid" means. Check out Totally Target and The Coupon Mazimizer's posts. To sum up their posts, word is that if you use a coupon to purchase the razor, you won't qualify for the rebate.
I understand that a rebate processor might be able to tell if you used a coupon at Target, but at Walgreens and CVS coupons are not identified to which product they were used for. Or, even if you didn't use a coupon for the product but paid for it with a Register Reward, it might look like you did use a Schick coupon. I'm not sure how they could deny the rebate.
My advise, either call Schick at 1-800-742-8377 to clarify the situations or gamble and send in the rebate.
Thanks, Couponmama!

I agree about the Walgreens comment. I don't know that they would be able to tell that you used the coupon for the razor unless you had a coupon for every item purchased (no fillers), or the razor was the only item you purchased.
ReplyDeleteThese rebate people LOVE coming up with ridiculous reasons to deny rebates. It's like...how "technical" can we get.
The razor was the only item I purchased on that receipt (with the coupon) and the rebate is already in the mail, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm probably out of luck on this one. Oh well! I'm with couponmama--this fine print business is kind of ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteJeri, maybe I should call the rebate center for this, but do you happen to know if items for the beer rebates can be purchased at *any* store or does it need to be one that sells that brand of beer? I was thinking of getting my produce at ALDI for the Heineken rebate to get a really good deal, but if they're this picky maybe I should buy it elsewhere.
The rebate printed states very clearly "do no write on above form" and then on the above portion tells you to circle the Hydro5/Hydro3. I purchased at Wags and used $5 MQ the processor won't be able to tell if it was a MQ or a RR. However, I wonder if they are aware of the RR and won't honor due to that. This is one I don't expect to get the money on!
ReplyDeleteI mailed mine this morning so if I dont get the rebate it was still free with the coupon and RR. The sale price could be considered an "offer" so does that mean if you bought it on sale but didnt use a coupon, you wont get it? I think too many rebates are intentionally vague so they have an excuse not to pay.
ReplyDeleteI called the 800 number and was told you can use the coupon and will be refunded only what you actually spent for the product. Example - Item cost $8, use $3 coupon, final cost $5, rebate will be $5. Worth buying and mailing in rebate to make the product "free".
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking, Wendy! It's definitely still worth it to me.
ReplyDeleteI bought one yesterday together with Nivea BW, Gillette Razor, and (2) ramen (as fillers) used coupons for each and (1)$10RR & (1)$2.50RR. Oop was $0.15 and got back a total of $15RR. I did good but am hoping I could also get a rebate back for the Schick. Since my Oop is $0.15, are they just going to give me a rebate for $0.15? :I How would the rebate people deal with this? They don't have the right to get credit for the RRs I worked hard for. hmmp. :I
ReplyDeleteI sent mine off today. I figured I was only out $.44 if they didn't accept it.
ReplyDeleteHi Rawfoodgal - I don't have the answer for you on where you purchas the food for the beer rebates. It's best to call the rebate center. Everyone might be different.
ReplyDeleteFor everyone who has already sent their rebate off, keep us posted what happens.
ReplyDeleteRawfoodgal, I already purchased $15 worth of produce at Aldi for that rebate form. It doesn't say anything on the form where to buy the produce so I hope the rebate people will honor my request :I Did you find out anything about this? TIA. :)
