I tried to purchase the Nivea men's body wash along with another item that I needed (also to cover overage) and the coupon beeped. Cashier said she couldn't adjust the coupon down. Politely told her no thanks on the body wash. I wonder if this has happened at other locations?
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous - I'm sure the same thing happened at lots of Walgreens. Some Walgreens can be very difficult to deal with.
ReplyDeleteYou should print out a copy of Walgreens coupon policy.
http://couponstl.blogspot.com/2010/08/walgreens-official-coupon-policy.html
It states "In the event that any item's selling price is less than the value of the coupon, Walgreens will only accept the coupon in exchange for the selling price of the item."
The statement doesn't say it will reduce the coupon, but it says they will accept it for the selling price.
If this happens to you again
1. Ask to speak to a manager
2. Pull out copy of the coupon policy if the manager won't reduce the price
3. If they still won't reduce the price, do as you did and leave the product at the store and come home and email Walgreens Corp. Managers are evalutated on customer feedback to Corp.
Hi anonymous. That happened to me too. They got a manager who still was clueless-- there was a long line, I didn't want to cause drama so I said no thanks also.
ReplyDeleteI have learned two tricks though. One is kind of sneakier than the other and I don't really like to do it. The first trick for like the Nivea at 2.50 each, to take three to the register. Give them 2 $3 coupons, then after your coupons are scanned you can ask them to void one of the Niveas. I don't know how ethical that is though, but it works.
The other trick is if you have multiple coupons, to buy more. So, if you buy 6 Niveas @ 2.50 = $15, and then give them 5 $3 coupons....you still get them all for free, and you have a filler item if you need to use a register reward. You can also do 4 nivea mens and 2 nivea womens=$15, use 4 $3 off mens, and 1 $3/2 womens, and get them all for free without any beeps.
If you read my comments on the other walgreens posts, I have suggestions about how to avoid beeps on the coffeemate coupons also.
Hi couponmama - Interesting idea of with having one of the products voided from your purchase. If the cashier/store won't do what they are really suppose to, I guess a couponer has to do what they do.
ReplyDeleteMy personal quide to ethical couponing is - will the store get reinbursed for the coupon. In this case the store will get reinbursed the $3. You bought/they sold enough product to cover the coupon requirements.
