Target Coupon Glitches

If you've shopped at Target the last few months and used coupons, you might of had some problems.  Your not alone. These glitches have been happening all around the country and couponers are grumbling.

I've heard of many couponers contacting Target Corporate, and nothing has been resolved.  Couponers aren't going to stop there, many have also contacted their local press, including Target's hometown paper the Minneapolis Star Tribune.  Read what the Star Tribune published HERE.

Things might be changing.  Reader CJ found a interesting  thread on Hot Coupon World where someone republished a Target memo to employees about new procedures concerning coupons.  Let's hope it's true.

Have you had problems using coupons at Target?  If your a regular Target shopper, have you seen any changes?

  1. This is funny....I was an exec at Target so I am very familiar with this kind of information. That reads just like something we would get from corporate. I ask you all to be patient with cashiers....they are supposed to know better but this is coming at a really terrible time. The "LOD's" they speak of are extremely busy with it being holiday shopping already. Also many of the cashiers you are going to start encountering are going to be seasonal. They may not know everything and you may get benefits of them being new anyway. Hope that makes sense but I do hope the problem works itself out.

  2. So far I've had good luck with employees at the Fenton store paying attention to the register and making corrections as needed, but then I usually pick from a small group of cashiers that I know are coupon-friendly. Two weeks ago one of them apologized while waiting for a manager to perform an override and explained that in response to all the recent glitches in their system, they were now being prompted by the computer to check almost every coupon. She said it was driving her crazy since it slowed her down so much, and the manager agreed.

When I went back this weekend with 20+ coupons, including lots of Target/manufacturer's stacks, I was dreading how long it might take and whether everything would scan properly. The whole thing went so smoothly - the register had a problem with only two coupons - that now I'm convinced my next trip will be the trip from hell, just to make up for it.

  3. Hi Sarah - Thanks for the insider insight. I hope these problems get fixed also. I really like Target, but I don't want to deal with the hassle.

I found the most intersting part of the memo to be the part where they talked about the "Speed-O-Meter". I know, but often forget, cashiers are evalutated on how quickly they get a customer through the line. Quick and coupons don't always mesh. I think that is why as many cashiers are coupon unfriendly - too worried about the numbers.

  4. Hi Fenton Shopper - I don't shop at Target often enough and at any regular times to get to know who are the coupon friendly cashiers. It does really help make the process go smoother when you find those people.

Now, if I only could read the receipt.

  5. I dont fault the cashiers when coupons go wrong. I know so many of them are new and graded on time. But its not fair for customers to not get full value for their coupons. So hopefully this directive will help both sides.

  6. I stopped shopping at Target. It's too frustrating. I'm not sure cheap Wheat Thins (my fav) can entice me to go back.

  8. Maybe they should have a letter to the Target people to make their receipts legible!

I really haven't shopped there lately so I don't know about the problems. I've heard of them but not seen them, kwim? Since i've heard of them its not worth the hassel most of the time, especially since I have kids with me when I shop. Hopefully things smooth over though!

  9. Hi All - It sounds like a lot of us havne't been shopping much at Target lately. I'm hoping it gets fixed in the system not just the cahsiers looking for coupons that ring up wrong.

  10. I am a HUGE Target shopper. I won't shop at Walmart b/c they are not known for their fairness to employees. I do shop Target lots, but forget to do all the coupon deals usually. I have found that mostly the cashiers are very friendly and willing to call mgmnt when there are problems. Or I just to go to CS to make is faster for the people in line behind me.

  11. I will NEVER shop at the Fenton Target ever again since one manager who was a total you-know-what to me wouldn't take a lot of my coupons, screwed up at least $10 more in coupons, treated me like dirt when I was hugely pregnant (and obviously very sick), and refused to return/refund the products when I pointed out the error. Corporate customer service acted like they could give a crap less when I called in about it. The Ballwin store isn't much better. If I want to Target shop with coupons, I will only do it at the Chesterfield store who will make it right if things screw up. However, even at that store the register is all screwy and I have to really watch the registers. It is just too much work for me unless there is like some out of this world deal, I will pass.

  12. I was at the Brentwood store today and overheard a manager ask a checker if she had been taught the new coupon policy, and she had a paper that the employee had to sign upon being coupon-trained. So, perhaps, this is a sign things will get better?

  13. Hi All - Just as with any store, the manager sets the tone for the store. Some are great to shop at and have great employees and others not so much. I fail to understand why retailers don't understand how they are not only in competition with other chains, but also the other stores within their own chain.

CValentine - Great news the new coupon policy sounds like it's filtering down to the right people.
