Kenrick's Meat & Catering Contest - Freezer Filled with Steaks

I usually don't post contests or sweepstakes, but this is too good of deal to miss.

Kenrick's Beef Feast Contest - one winner will be selected to win a freezer filled with individually freezer wrapped Kenrick's steaks.

Contest ends 2/27/11

Kenrick's will deliver the freeze filled with steaks to the residence of the winner for free (within the Metro St Louis area).  If winner is located outside the Metro St Louis area, they will have to pick up the freezer or pay for shipping.

  1. Has anyone ever bought from them for bulk meat purchases? My family was thinking about buying 1/2 a cow and splitting it btwn my mom and dad and me and my husband, because I can never seem to understand what a good price is on meat, and thus, never buy meat. Not necessarily going through this meat vendor, but just buying 1/2 a cow in general. What are anyone's thoughts on bulk meat purchases for saving money? Is it worth it?

  2. I think it is worth it if you normally buy the more expensive cuts. I went in on a cow with family once, purchasing 1/4 the cow. I found myself with a bunch of cuts that I don't normal get. I buy ground beef at 1.99, an occasional round steak or roast at 2.49 and steak for our anniversary.

  3. We purchased 1/4 a cow and I thought it was great because we always had meat on hand and it was a better price than the store, although I forget the per pound price at the moment. I recommend it if you have the freezer space.

  4. I bought strip steak today and cried a little. Then I started thinking about how great it would be to buy half a cow. I grew up on a farm and we would butcher our own cow and lamb once a year. I have no freezer so I can't buy a half of anything buuuuut, this comes with a freezer! I hope one of us wins, how awesome woudl that be?!

  5. Hi All - I love this promotion too. When we purchased the freeze this fall, I debated pricing a 1/4 side of beef, but since by husband and son prefer pork & chicken, it didn't make a whole lot of sense. I'm not sure I would know how to cook some of what I would get.

  6. Jeri, I saw where you can buy 1/2 a hog from them too!

  7. Watch that the price per lb. isn't for the hanging weight. I heard some places charge for the processing and there always trim waste. If I was buying part of a cow, I would ask for large pieces without any bones. Later, I would cut my own steaks and use the scraps for kabobs, stews and burgers. The better quality Kitchenaid Mixer has an attachment that allows one to grind meat scraps into burgers. The only negative is that it mostly plastic and a dishwasher doesn't really clean the inside.

If you have decent knife skills, you could start making your own jerky. Just don't hang slabs from the gutter in your backyard.

  8. The only think I know about buying a side of beef is when Aunt Bee did it on Andy Griffith. It didn't go well for her...

But I know I could use all the cuts (somehow). I would be just as excited if any of us won - good luck ladies!! Winner hosts a barbecue!

  9. Hi Army Mom - I love the idea of winner hosting a BBQ :)

Thanks, kas! You knowledge never ceases to amaze me. I need to write a post about "Things I've Learned from kas" :)

  10. I looked around on their website and they have mini freezer packages. You can get a mix of beef and pork and get a free chicken etc. I think there are smaller sets that would probably suit anyone's needs if you wanted to buy in bulk like that. I would probably do that if I had a freezer to put it in!
