Menu Plan Monday - Week of 3/07/11
Last week, I made All-Day Bolognese Sauce from Dierbergs March Everybody Cooks Magazine. It was quite good - I can't believe I've never made my own pasta sauce when it's so easy. This week, I'm going to make Classic French Cassoulet for the same publication. It sounds fancy, but it's really beans and smoked sausage in the Crockpot. My kind of easy meal.
Monday: Spicy Sausage and Cauliflower Soup, green salad, clementines
Tuesday: Pasta con Broccoli, garlic bread, green salad
Wednesday: Baked Chicken, baked potato, cole slaw, fresh pineapple
Thursday: Baked Potato Soup, green salad, apple slices
Friday: Fish and fries, peas, fresh pineapple
Saturday: Dinner out
Sunday: Classic French Cassoulet, fresh fruit

I made the Cassoulet, though from a different recipe. The Dierberg's mag gave me the original idea though!
ReplyDeleteIt's here: http://www.everylittlethingblog.com/2011/03/french-bean-cassoulet.html
I am also making that tomorrow. I will let you know ow mine turns out. Since I bought 4 of the sausages on the 15 hour sale I thought it would be perfect. I made the strawberry pie (blue owl) on the fron cover yesterday. I gotta tell it was so delicious my husband ate 2 pieces which never happens. Everyone should pick up the Everybody Cooks and try it.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynne at Every Little Thing - You're recipe looks great. I love the idea of bread crumbs and parmesan on top!
ReplyDeleteHi Lynda - I'll be interested in what you think about The Cassoulet.
I hadn't even read through the Strawberry pie recipe. I'm a strawberry snob. I usually only like them at the height of the season and homegrown. But I just read it and my mouth is watering. Oh My! I'll have to give that recipe a try too.
Jerri verdict on the Cassoulet, Gag, Yuck, Never again! I took a couple of bites and my husband said it was tolerable but that is about it. My 25 year old daughter said she needed to go get something else to eat. At least she was nice about it. So what is the verdict at your house? I hope it is better than at mine.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynda - Oh my! I've made a few recipes in my lifre where the family takes one bite and someone says, "Let's order a pizza."
ReplyDeleteCassoulet is on the menu for Thursday. I'll have to look at Lynne at Every Little Things recipe closer. It sounded like her family liked the one she made.
(My name is Stacy btw, hehe)
ReplyDeleteWe loved the Cassoulet! It really was just like a chili with sausage in it. Can't really go wrong with beans, tomatoes, and sausage! It was very good. Lynda - did you make any recipe changes?
Hi Stacy - Sorry about the name thing. It's one of my bad habits. I'm know for giving people differnt names.
ReplyDeleteI followed the recipe. My recommendation would be not to put the sausage in it so soon. It was way to done. I hope everyone elses turns out better than mine.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynda - Well, the Deirbergs I shop are still out of the sausage I have a raincheck for, so it looks like Cassoulet is either later in the week or next.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip. I'll add the sausage late in cooking. It only needs to warm up, I can see why cooking it all day, might not be the best thing to do.
