CVS $5 Scenario - Week of 10/2/11

If your store is busy, the polite thing to do is to pay for a  couple transactions and step aside to let the customers behind you check out.  This not only keeps the other customers happy, but puts less stress on the cashier.

If you are following my CVS $5 Scenarios, you have $3.79 ECB to start this week's shopping.

Take a look more of this week's CVS deals.

Transaction #1
purchase:
(2) Reach Toothbrush 2 packs @ $3.99 each = $7.98
use:
(2)  $2/1 Reach Toothbrush printable coupons -$4.00
ECB from last week - $3.79
= $0.19 + tax and get a $4 ECB

Transaction #2
purchase:
(5) Dove Hair Care Products @3.00 each = $15.00
use:
(1) B1G1 Dove Hair Care coupons (10/2/11 RP) - $6.00
(1) $0.75 Dove Hair Care printable coupon HERE or HERE = $0.75
ECB from previous transaction - $4.00
= $4.25 + tax and get a $5 ECB
Your cashier might or might not allow you to use two additional $0.75 coupons.

Total retail before sales & coupons: $35.93
Spent: $4.44 + tax for an 88% savings
And a $5 ECB to start next week's shopping

If you didn't start with the $3.79 ECB, you will spend $8.23 for this scenario - a 77% savings.

  1. The Reach coupon states limit one per purchase. Is there a trick to using two for the first transaction or am i misunderstanding something?

  2. A purchase is one item, a transaction is all them items you are purchasing.
    Hope that helps

  3. Hey, I am a total noob here. Just decided to try this this week. I've got my coupons clipped, and tomorrow am going to CVS, Walgreens, and Schnucks for my first excursion. I'm totally psyched!

I have a question about CVS extra cash, though.

They have that deal right now for 2 boxes of general mills cereal for $5.50. I am planning on buying 6 for $16.50 and using 2 $1.00 off coupons, for a total of $14.50. The ad says I will get $1 in extra bucks instantly for buying 2 boxes. Does that mean I will get $3 because I bought 6 boxes? And can I turn around after that transaction, get back in line, and buy something immediately with those extra bucks?

    Thanks.

I think you might be confusing purchase and transaction.

Purchase is the number of items you are buying. If you purchasing two items you can use two coupons.

Transaction is when the cashier totals the register and you pay.

Hi Zombie Hunter - CVS has limits and you won't get ECB for itmes over the limit. General Mills Cereal is limit 1 offer. So only buy a set of two for the good deal.

Yes, you can turn right around and spend the ECBs in another transaction.

Let us know how your first day out couponing goes. Have Fun!

  7. Quick CVS run this morning. Bought 2 packs of Starbucks Frappacinos and 5 Lipton 100% tea bottles for $15, used $3 in coupons and $10 in ECBs and got $5 ECB back. I keep forgeting to look for the Carmex Moisture Plus thats free after rebate. Nothing good out of the un-magic coupon machine :(

Good luck to the noobies, have a great time :)

  8. Can you buy 4 Dove products & use 2 of the B1G1 free coupons? Pay for two, get two free?
Then buy one Men+Care deodorant, and qualify for the $5 ECBS?

  9. Okay, went for the first time today. CVS, Walgreens, and Schnucks are all within a mile of my apartment, so hit all three. Have to say, I was worried about how we would be received, but all three places were very nice and helpful - especially CVS, whose manager actually gave me tips, suggested doing multiple transactions to make the most of my coupons, and gave me a different flavor of coffee when they were out of the one that was on sale.

I got a couple of great deals, getting 10 cans of Campbells soup for $4.40 with 10/10 in store, and 2 $40 coupons that were doubled. Got a great deal on the Frappuccino. I'm a frap junkie, so I bought four 4-packs for $12.

Anyway, here are my totals for the day:

I bought $294.43 worth of groceries, paid $189.66 for a savings of $104.77 - 36%! Not too bad for my first excursion. And I left CVS with about $5 in extra bucks, and Schnucks with a $3 off meat catalina.

    Good start?

Yes, you can work the deal with 4 Dove and 1 Men+Care. Not only was I able to use the Dove B1G1 coupons, but I was also able to use the $0.75 coupon on the product I was paying for. Your store might or might not allow using the $0.75 also.

Yes, great start! And, the longer you coupon the even better savings you will see.

Isn't CVS wonderful? I've always have great coupon expierences there.

Don't fret about how you will be precieved. Most of the time the "attitude" you get from cashiers and customers behind you in line is - How did they do that?

I can't wait to get the "How did you do that?" from somebody. That would be pretty sweet.

(I just realized I forgot the decimal point in my post, so it looks like with the double, I got eighty bucks off on one coupon, haha. That would make me the king!)

Yeah, I was really impressed with CVS. They were so nice and patient. I will be a regular there.

I can't wait to see my percentages get higher. I've been trying to stock up on meal creators, like canned tomatoes and beans and pasta and sauces and stuff. I figure if I keep shopping the deals, I'll have enough of a base that I will be able to be a lot more selective about what I buy. As it was yesterday, shopping the sales only took me so far - I still had to buy a lot of stuff that I had no coupon for and weren't on sale, just because I had to finish off meals.

I ended up getting three bottles of shampoo, which is somehow comforting. I know I don't have to worry about running out for awhile and having to spend money on them. I am starting to understand people who have these huge stockpiles. It's really a lot of piece of mind. Of course, I'm not going to get one like that (I say now, haha), but I figure a few months worth will be good, particularly for toiletries and baby supplies.

Thanks for all the great information you provide on this site.

CJ..I did the Carmex deal last week, our CVS charges $3.29, the Rebate is up to $2.99, so if your CVS charges less that, you will get it free, otherwise you pay difference, plus tax.
