  5. I'm really stocking up on the Russet spuds (got a pressure canner this year!)
I also will get Lorraine Swiss cheese at SNS ($3.98/lb!). It tends to be a lower sodium cheese which is good for my husband. (He used to get it at Sappington Farmers Market for much more ....)
Food for Less has winter squash (acorn/butternut) for $.50/lb.

  6. I'm stocking up on potatoes too!!! We go through like water in my house!! I have found that if you boil them slightly and then freeze them that you can do almost anything with them after.

  7. Peel the potatoes and then cut them into pieces. Then boil them so that they are still hard in the center. Doing this keeps them from turning black. They need to cool before they are frozen. Remember that they will cook a little more while they are cooling. Store them in freeze bags or containers. When you are ready to use a bag take them out of the freezer, don't thaw all the way just enough to be able to sepreate them pieces. They can be cooked in a variety of ways. I cut them into smaller pieces and fry to make hashbrowns, grill the pieces in a aluminum pan with veggies, seasoning, and butter(this makes crunchy on the outside soft on the inside potatoes-a favorite in my house), boil them the rest of the way for mashed potatoes(you can mix all kinds of ingredients in them for different flavors). Sometimes I bake them almost all the way and then freeze when cool. They can be taken out and baked the rest of the way for baked potatoes. If you need more directions please let me know. I hope this all makes sense.
