CVS has updated their coupon policy.
The big change is:
- CVS/pharmacy will not accept third party manufacturers’ coupons with another retailer’s logo
This is not a good precedent for a retailer to set, but at leas they addressed the issue.
When I post CVS coupon match ups, I will try to catch all coupons with another store logo, but if I don't, please let me know.
As with all stores' coupon policies, print a copy of the policy and take a copy of the policy with you when you shop. You never know when you might need to remind a cashier of their store's policy.

So--if a coupon states, "Available at Walmart," then it won't be redeemable at CVS. I always follow the money. Do you think that CVS was having problems getting paid for these coupons, and so this is why they are no longer going to accept them? The conventional wisdom was that as long as there was a redemption address on the coupon, then the store would be paid. Interesting...
ReplyDeleteHi Beertrishdadish - I've always been under the impression that as long as the coupon was a Manf. coupon every retailer would get reimbursed also.
DeleteThe long time CVS employee (manager) at the store I run into you atis no longer there. I would have loved to pick his brain on this one. Maybe the new manager will be able to give me some insight.
I would assume the reason is so that they are consistent at all stores. There are probably many customers that get turned away by cashiers regarding these and complain. The easiest way to address the hassle and complaints was to stop accepting them. That way they have a consistent policy across stores.
ReplyDeleteIt is bad for couponers, but I don't really think it is wrong or a bad precedent because customers really can't stand stores policies that differ. I just had an issue with WalMart where they would only exchange diapers for other diapers without a receipt, but was told by a manager at another store that you can get store credit. I haven't found anything clear on their website, but anyway the inconsistency really irked me.
I agree that consistency between stores in the same retail chain is important. But, I still think that the new rule sets a bad president for coupons. If a store is getting reimbursed for a coupon, then why not accept them?
DeleteI'm sure Walmart pays to have their name on printable coupons. If all stores started this policy as CVS has, then Walmart could pay to have coupon not used elsewhere.
