  1. Doh! I bought the Popcorn Indiana this week with my coupons! (And had my WORST coupon experience EVERRRRRR -- cashier wouldn't take them because they said "redeemable at Walmart" and had to call the manager, then couldn't blip my Reward card because I already gave her the coupons (manager had to void the order), then I couldn't use my $2 off next purchase from Goody. Grrrr.)

  2. I find myself shopping there less and less. I having been having a lot of problems with cpns and the BR not working correctly.

    1. Same here. There's a store a block away from me and the cashiers are always rude and difficult. I dealt with it for a while because the deals were good, but when they started the reward card I stopped going there all together. CVS is my only drug store shopping at this point, and I generally find their cashiers to be very helpful (barring the occasionl bad apple).

    2. I have an insider info from manufacturers regarding coupons. If a coupon says "Redeemable at Walmart", only Walmart will be reimbursed for this coupon. If it says "Redeemable at Walgreens", Walgreens is the only store that can get reimbursement from the manufacturer.

It doesn't matter that the word "Only" is not in the "Redeemable at ___ " phrase on the coupon.

This is bad news for us who use coupons but I think we have to respect this.

    3. Tell us more. Why aren't they coded then to work at the store mentioned on the coupon?

    4. Manufacturers thought that the words "Redeemable at ___" is understandable enough for both the store and the coupon user. They are considering modifying the bar code of the coupon for a certain store but it will cost them more to do it that's why just the added phrase.

Unfortunately, because of these words, the loss on these coupons goes to the store who is not supposed to take them.

    5. Thanks for the additional info. Can you email me couponstl (at) gamil (dot) com.

    6. Sorry, Jeri. I have to remain anonymous. My job would be at stake. I know you'll understand. On coupons that have these words, you can contact the manufacturers directly on what they will say about this. For our benefit, I hope the info I got is wrong.

    7. I understand. I wouldn't want to do anything that jeopardized someone job.

I have been looking into this a little further trying to get something "official" from a manufacturer or the coupon association.

But, if I understand how coupon reimbursement works, the coupons are processed at a clearinghouse by scanning them. Very few coupons are handled manually. So, if they aren't coded for a specific retailer, how do they know not to reimburse the retailer that's not listed on the coupon?

  3. Anonymous, that is NOT TRUE about the "redeemable at Walmart wording. This is discussed in MANY coupon books (Krazy Coupon Lady and The Idiots Guide). It's only a way for stores to advertise, most stores take them without a second look.
