Menu Plan Monday - Week of 4/04/11
I seem to be putting more and more chicken dishes on my menu lately. Prices at the grocery store are increasing on everything, and I can't bring myself to pay $4.89 a pound for hamburger, let alone the price for the expensive cuts.
Monday: Baked Chicken, long rain & wild rice, grilled asparagus
Tuesday: Honey Mustard Chicken Wraps, fries, fresh fruit
Wednesday: General Tso's Chicken, steamed rice, broccoli
Thursday: Chicken Fajitas, refried beans
Friday: Pasta con Broccoli, green salad, garlic bread
Saturday: Dinner out
Sunday: Italian Sausage & Pepper Medley, coleslaw, fresh fruit

For your dishes with Mexican flair, may I suggest Whole Grain Spanish Rice-A-Roni? My family LOVES it, and it is often on sale for $10/10 at Dierbergs. Would go GREAT with your fajitas.

Thanks for everything you do! I really appreciate your Dierbergs match-ups.
Have a great day!!! :)
Since you bought a big freezer, you may want to look into buying a side or quarter of beef. We bought a side and paid $2.82 a pound.
ReplyDeleteHi Stacy - We love Rice-A-Roni Long Grain & Wild rice. Thanks for the suggestion on Whole Grain Spanish rice - we'll have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly - My freeze is only medium sized, but I might look into buying 1/4 side of beef. $2.82 looks darn good right now.
I hear on the meat prices - it's killing my budget!
ReplyDeleteYou're right - chicken is best deal around. We would love to do a 1/4 side of beef - once we have our own place and we stop moving so often!
You get a better price on a side. I would try to find someone to split it with. I order mine from beefbytheside.com. They are a Missouri company that will deliver (even to your basement) to St. Louis and Kansas City areas! They are fantastic to work with and custom cut to your specifications.
ReplyDeleteI would second buying a side of beef. If you can split it with a few friends, it's a steal. About 100lbs of beef should fit in an average above the fridge, freezer. Here is a directory for finding local grassfed beef : http://www.eatwild.com/products/missouri.html
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly & Nora - You're enticing me to spend my splurge funds on a side of beef. Thanks for the links.
ReplyDeleteI've actually cut a good amount of meat out of our dinners simply b/c it's expensive. I only eat grass-fed beef ($5/lb) and local, small farm pork, sausage, and chicken (or Just Bare chicken sometimes). I'm OK with the extra cost and am willing to make more vegetarian meals because of it!
ReplyDeleteI picked up a family pack of ground chuck on manager's special for $2.99/lb today (sell by date of 4/6, but I freeze it anyway)at Dierbergs. It's not fantastic, but better than I've seen lately, especially for chuck. Also, if you live near a Toms (IL side) they have ground beef for $1.99/lb this week.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous - I'm down to my last pound of ground chuck. I picked up a 10# box at Kennricks a few months ago. I feel like I've been rationing by burger.
