slow week huh?
ReplyDeleteI know I'm spoiled from higher value Super Doubles in the past.
Deletewe all are!! no word from dierbergs yet?
ReplyDeleteYes. they are matching schnucks doubles.
DeleteWell, there may be some deals I end up going out for...but I didn't rush to clip or anything. Usually I clip and go out first thing before any match ups. This time I'm just going to wait and see. I will say I have some coupons on some items that were on my grocery list anyway, and I'm always real happy to lower any prices I can :)
ReplyDeleteHere is an idea for the Cake mix and pinnaples...I learned about this at work. Take angel food cake mix, and only add one reg. size can of crushed pinnaple...nothing else, mix and bake untill done, top with icing or whip cream. Its so easy and REALLY good. I'm hopeing that there is a betty crocker angel food cake mix to use the coupon on because I want to make this tonight.
All the sauces and such that are usually free are pretty stocked here at my house, so I probably wont even go out for that sort of stuff.
Speaking of sauces BTW, we got a little fryer from Bed-Bath-Beyond....We have been frying up wingettes and putting that Franks Sweet Chili sauce on them. OMG, its REALLY good on wings! We did a variety in all the hot sauces and such I couponed at prior events. Everything was great on them, also the Franks Thick worked well. OK a little off the subject...but I figure you guys may have alot of hot sauce items at home to use too :)
Jessonica - You're pineapple/Angel food cake recipe sounds yummy! I'm seeing BC Angel Food Cake on the App for $2.58.
DeleteI love that angel food cake creation- I've made it before and it's always a hit. Top with CoolWhip and toasted coconut for a tropical treat. Make sure it's the one-step mix, though. The kind that you have to beat the whites packet first doesn't turn out right! (BTW, Aldi has been stocking 2-step angel food mixes for $1.99 and they're great!)
DeleteIf anyone has the girlscout Thin mint Q. They are 69 cents at schnucks=Free.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the cashback policy after coupons at schnucks. Does it vary? One cashier at Dorsett said they do give cash back? Is this right?
I looked for those candy bars at Schnucks and Dierbergs. No luck. I've never gotten cash back at Schnucks. At Dierbergs they make me use my overage on other items, no cash back. Might depend on the location though.
DeleteWhenever I have had overage at Schnucks they have given me the change. It's ususally less a dollar. I don't try to get it, sometimes cpns go through for more the amount of the item. Most times the cpn automically adjusts to the price of the item when it doesn't you have overage. I have been told'"it says you are owed xyz" and they give time. I have questioned it many times and they always say the ..."it says your owed xyz I don't want my register to be wrong."
DeleteI saw the singles Girl Scout Candy bars at Schnucks on Lindbergh in Florissant. They are $0.79 each there and right when you walk in on a stand alone merchandiser. At Dierbergs in Florissant, they had a few boxes left in the Clearance section marked at $2.50.
DeleteGotta love it when people make you feel like you are doing something illegal. I went to Schnucks and had a combination of IP and newspaper coupons. Some of the IP didn't scan but once she entered the number manually they went through fine. Then I noticed some things were doubling arbitrary amounts like .43 or .25. These were for items that would not have been free so there was no reason for the reduced amount. I asked the cashier and she thought it was because you could only have 15. The man in line behind me started making comments from the peanut gallery about how you can't double more than 15. Calmly I replied that the first 5-6 coupons were for $1 or $2 and that had nothing to do with the double. Plus they were doubling but not for the proper amount. the cashier then deleted all the coupons and started scanning coupons that were doubling first to see if that made a difference and using the high dollar ones at the end. Again, random amounts were doubling. She called for help and that took a long time and the guy behind me kept making comments about how I was doing it wrong as if he had any idea what I had coupons for but I digress. A customer service manager came over and tried to help. She said it was because they were IP. Well, except for the fact that newspaper coupons were doing it too. Then she started saying I didn't buy the right items...which I did. The cashier confirmed. She was mad that I was there clearly and eventually just did a manual override and would put in $1.50 coupons for all the .75 coupons. Afterwards the cashier appologized for the wait (15 min check out and the guy behind me kept telling people to go elsewhere b/c I was holding up the line). The CS manager then told me it was because I used Publix coupons. I started to say they were not publix that they were manu coupons. She cut me off and said, "No they are for a store that isn't even in our area and its in Florida and since you brought those in we have to do it a whole different way." The guy again commented that they were store coupons blah blah blah. of all the coupons I used 2 were had the Publix logo on them. I thought everyone but the cashier were was very rude and tried to make me feel like I was criminal. I was within the store parameters, had legitimate coupons and product sizes and amounts. If the CS manager though I was commiting coupon fraud and they would not be able to redeem the coupons why did she go ahead an manually override them?? Then loudly cut me off and tell me I was doing something wrong when clearly I was not and only two of the coupons I used were what she though were fraud. The rest were from the paper or IP. And if you entered the numbers in manually they went through just fine it was only the doubling that was the issue.
ReplyDeletesorry, that's windy but I'm upset but remained calm and tried to explain things. Its hard when the cashier is confused, the CS manager is rude, the man behind me kept piping in and my kids were more than restless. Awesome.
Marcella - I've had trips like that, not fun. Especially frustrating when you know you're using them right. The only thing worse than a coupon hater behind you is someone who thinks they are a coupon expert and know more about your coupons than you do!! Hope it turned out okay and your next time will go better.
DeleteMarcella - Yep, we've all had that happen to us before.
DeleteThe question has been asked many times on Schnucks Facebook page if they accept a manufacturer's coupon with another retailers name on it and they always reply they will accept them since they are manf. coupon.
Too bad all Schnucks employees aren't made to read their Facebook page. Maybe you should relay part of your story and which store you were shopping at on Schnucks Facebook page.
All I could think of was, "And YOU are the customer service manager???". Wow.
DeleteI still got everything for the expected prices but I don't like people trying to shame me and act as if they are doing me some grand favor. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I still have 2 "Publix" coupons left. I feel like going back up there and doing it again just out of spite.
I'm quite sure Schnucks doesn't really want to risk any more negative publicity after their debit/credit card debacle. I'd run your experience up the flagpole and keep going until you reach someone who is wise enough to put out your fire before everyone hears about it. That CSM should be reprimanded!
DeleteLast evening I had a cashier yelling at me (and I do mean yelling). A manager came up and asked what was the problem. I asked to go away from the cashier to explain. I was right, of course. However, even if I hadn't been correct, NO cashier should EVER yell at a customer as he was yelling at me. If Schnucks could program their registers correctly, none of this would have happened.
DeleteSound like there are a few testy employees at Schnucks these days.
DeleteMarcella,
DeleteI had a bad experience a few months ago (the cashier didn't accuse me of fraud, but the coupons didn't double correctly and it took FOREVER for the CS rep to agree I had been charged incorrectly, she kept coming up with excuses that were wrong and then just thought I should eat the loss instead of her refunding me the difference) at Schnucks. I emailed a complaint through their website and either that day or the next day the store manager called me with a personal apology and sent me a gift card for my trouble. If you don't want to call them out publicly on FB, I would at least email them on their website. Hopefully, that will make it easier for the next couponer the CS manager deals with.
I just wrote a strongly worded memo to corporate. We'll see what happens.
DeleteI'm sorry for your bad experience, like the other comment said I've believe its happen to all of us. A few months ago at Kohl's on St. Charles Rock road my husband and kids we had a $10 off coupon. We all brought a $10 pack of sock and just paid the tax. We had the ruddiest cashier. She was hollering and making rude comments about how I should be ashamed of myself teaching my kids to steal, and how it isn't right getting free items, etc. I'm usually the calm one, but had to get rid of my husband who clearly had enough. I got the manager but she was useless.
DeleteStacy 5 - If Kohl's was calculating tax correctly by Missouri Statute - you shouldn't had had to even pay that. But, that's a whole other story.
DeleteThere is no excuse for a cashier to ever act that way.
I think Kohl's was doing tax correctly in this case. If the $10 is like a gift card, then this is correct. I think Kohl's cash is $10 off your next purchase making it like having a $10 bill. The good thing about it is it works well if you want to buy something for slightly less than $10 where the sales tax will bring it to $10 or more.
Deletestacy5, CONGRATS to you for teaching your children to be smart consumers! So many people are in credit card debt. You are teaching them the opposite. Last week when I shopped at Kohl's there was survey info on he receipt. If your receipt has that, I recommend you do it. There is NO excuse for such rudeness. Management needs to know.
Thanks, KC! You're probably right on that Kohl's $10 - your are our "tax expert."
DeleteI got a lovely form letter back from Schnucks. Honestly, I'm surprised. With as much as they have been through the customer service ringer I expected more.
DeleteOh well, I said my piece.
A new personal best for me at Schnucks today - $15 worth for (drumroll please) 8 cents! The cashier and I were both shocked, I didnt realize I;d picked out all freebies. All 3 of my trips so far have been great, pleasant cashiers and no coupon issues. The Ten sodas are on an end cap in the frozen section of the Richmond Hts store if anyone is looking for them there.
ReplyDeleteThe Brentwood Schnucks never computes tax right. Last night I paid .34 tax on my after coupon total of .30. Not worth arguing over though because no one at Schnucks understands the state tax laws.
ReplyDeleteHi CJ - Did the cashier have to manually adjust some of the coupons? It seem's to me, that when all coupons ring up correctly, the tax tends to be correct. But, when they have to do more than scan a coupon, that is when the tax is incorrect.
DeleteMaybe we should bring it to Schnucks attention now. I'm sure they are a little more concerned with what's happening at the registers than they were before the credit card fiasco.
I would love for someone to bring it up to Schnucks. I know it isn't much, but it does add up over time.
DeleteYou are right ~~ the problem is with manually entered coupons. I have dealt with this since 1/20/11 ~~ yes, over 2 years. Schnucks management is well aware of the problem. They really are trying to figure it out. They have a chart for entering coupons in response to my emails. They assure me it works at the corporate level. They can't understand why it doesn't work in the stores. However, as I keep communicating to them ~~ "I don't understand how all the other stores can get it right and they can't." The state does get the tax money, not Schnucks. Therefore, they do not financially benefit in any way.
DeleteAfter 4 trips this week, I dont remember which coupons didnt scan where! It just seems like it always happens at the Brentwood location. But since we get such good deals from doubles/triples its not that big of a deal, just irritating. I also wish they'd print their tax rates on the receipts since rates vary so much in different municipalities.
DeleteKC - At least it's good to here that the "extra" tax paid goes to the state. It's not like the state doesn't need it. I would like my "not required to pay tax" to go to education.
DeleteI'm wondering if they get it to work at Corp. but not the stores, is because of the extra tax municipalities collect - CJ mentions Brentwood, and I'm sure that location has to collect lots of extra local taxes.
Not related to this sale, but a few years ago my husband was laid off and we had a link card. If I paid full price for my groceries, everything was covered with the card. If I used coupons in any way and then paid with my link card, I would owe tax on the couponed items. Not that I ever complained, but it just seemed odd to me. That if I saved the state money by using coupons in conjunction with my link card, that I had to use cash to pay the tax.
DeleteSomething is definitely wrong with taxing and coupons in all store systems, but they prolly don't think we are worth the effort it would take to reprogram them.
I love when you correct a coupon mistake and they give you that look like, "really, it's almost free already, why are you quibbling over .50" But it all adds up!
They no longer do this at schnucks or dierbeg's, they forgive the tax if you are using foodstamps. I have gone in schnucks and dierbergs where the total ended up to be zero. They still have a glich in thier computers that will say I own them like 3.75 but it will charge the card 4.25 and should get change back. Not to mention I had about $40 worth of groceries and alot of coupons. At first the cashiers said we are not allowed to give back change I went along, but the more I thought about it, they where overcharging the goverment with my help. The next incident I didn't go along I asked to speak to the Manger, showed him exacly what my problem was, it clearly states my total, how much my card was charged and how they owed me change. He insisted that he was right in overcharging me & "the government that I would be notifying of their policy" he told me to give him my name and home phone number, he would call and get confirmation from the home office and that I was wrong, and he would call me and let me know notify anyone I like, if I was right he would be calling me in a couple days and would have a $20 gift card waiting for me at the customer service counter the next time I came in. I recieved a call before the day ended that corporate poilcy would be changed and my gift card was waiting at the service counter. Every manager in town is on a first name basis with me, don't be afraid to stand your ground, it seems they will often try to overcharge you at any opportunity. Don't let them.
DeleteMy totals for the week - paid $15 on $71 worth. I may make one more trip for more Curad, GG chips and pineapple.
ReplyDeleteI've seen tons of curad and Colgate at affton schnucks, the $1 ones that are free with coupons
ReplyDeleteI don't know how long this catalina deal last, but I picked up 3 Kikkoman soy sauces($2.09, you can also choose $2.19 for a bigger bottle on sale now) with coupons($0.55/1 from inserts, there is also $1/1 IP) and get $2 catalina. And they roll. I stocked up on Kikkoman since these are my shelf stable item. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Karin - I can find other bloggers writing about a Kikkoman Cat at Kroger

Buy (3) or more get $2 coupon.
I would imagine it's the same I'll see if I can find signage at the store I shop.
Thank you Jeri for finding the details about Kikkoman catalina! Seems no one is interested in Kikkoman at my store right now bc there are plenty of stock left which is good to me.lol
DeleteKarin - How long have you been couponing? Kikkoman runs this type of deal often. I think some of us might have enough to bath in.
DeleteHa ha, I don't have enough for a bath.lol I've been couponing about 3 years. I see Kikkoman has catalina deals, but normally I'm slow to catch up on these.lol I already have descent stockpile of soy sauces, but I go through one bottle really fast, so never get enough of them. ;)
