Using Walgreens Register Rewards

The most confusing thing of shopping at Walgreens is knowing when you can roll Register Rewards - use one and receive another one, but it is really easy once you know what to look for.

On a Register Reward, below the Walgreens logo it will tell which retailer offered the reward. Check the packaging of every item you are purchasing. If it is a different manufacturer/retailer, you will receive another Register Reward.

It's not uncommon for a cashier to tell you that you won't receive another Register Reward if you use one. I always ask if this a new rule within the last few days. You can see the cashier mentally searching to remember when they were told that by their manager.

At this point, I ask them ring up my purchase and see what happens. If the cashier seems amazed and interested that more Register Rewards printed, I explain the rules - obviously their manager didn't. If the cashier could care less, I take my new Register Rewards and go on with my business.

  1. Last week a Wags cashier and her manager both told me I wouldnt get a RR if I used a coupon for the same product. I said "Well thats funny, I just did it here 2 days ago with no problem". So she scanned the coupon and they both stood there dumbfounded as the RR printed. The coupon/RR rules arent that hard but some employees dont seem to know how things work even though they deal with them all day. Oh well, as long as the deals work for us!

  2. CJ - I agree. The managers are so clueless about how coupons and Register Rewards work. And from my expierence they don't want to know why you can roll RR sometimes and not others.

  3. I had trouble yesterday at 2 different Walgreens in South County. First, I bought 3 boxes of cereal with 2 coupons and 1 RR. It would only take the RR if it was rung in before the coupons. That took 10 minutes and a manager to figure that out.
Then I bought the Sudafed and got my RR. I went back in for the B1G1 almonds and sale juice. The cashier was not going to let me use the $5 RR saying they could not use one issued the same day. She said it was her managers policy...obviously not written on the coupon! She did give it to me anyway! Guess next time I'll change up the cashiers!

  4. Jenny - Sorry you had those problems. I avoid the Walgreens that are not coupon friendly; it's not like there isn't another Walgreens to shop at.

  5. I have questions. I have one confusion, when I use register reward it does not print next reward, it that true?
If I use register reward from a different manufacturer on a item from another manufacturer will R.R print?

Reward advertised last week will be printing for One month?

  6. You can roll RR between differnt manufacturers only.

Pay for an P&G product with a Hershy RR and receive a new RR, but if you pay for a P&G product with a P&G RR you won't.

Many of the sales advertised the 9/27/09 sale flyer are running for the entire month of October. They are listed as FREE all month in my October Walgreens posts.

  7. I am wondering where you find the list of monthly register rewards. I know that you have them here on the website but is there someplace or something that Walgreen's issues to say what is a monthly reward? I purchased the Robitussin 2 go for $2.49 and did not get a register reward like I thought I would. I had register rewards that I used to pay for my purchase but none were from the same manufacturer.

  8. Some store are good about putting out the shelf tags that advertise the monthly RR. I use http://iheartwags.com/ (cut and paste the address, my comment area won't allow a link) as a refrence. She is really good about taking pictures of the shelf tags and posting them on her blog.

I feel really bad you didn't get your RR. I took a look now at I Heart Wag's post and I see she's now reporting the Robitussin RR is no longer working. Walgreen or the manufacturer can pull these deals or it could be a mistake on Walgreens part. I'm sorry I didn't know about this new developemnt and update my post.

If I were you I would return the product. I don't return merchandise very often, but in this case I would. If you have more questions feel free to email me.

  9. Thanks for the info. Not too worried about the $2.49. I was just more curious on where I could find it to look at it more. The Walgreens I went to today out of convenience is not that good about putting out the shelf tags so I did not really worry about it. I had lots of issues at the checkout (coupons not scanning and it was the Walgreens coupons not mine)so it took some time to get it all correct. With that I only paid $1.50 and got $3 in RR (I did use $6 RR). I may take it back if I have time otherwise I am sure we can use it somehow.

Thanks for blog. I just recently was told about it and love it! I don't know how you keep it all so organized, but I will say you are much appreciated!!

  10. I hope you don't need to use the Robitussin and it just sits on your shelf as insurance against all the nasty germ going around this year.

Thanks for the kind words. I don't feel organized enough.

  11. Boy, I had a heck of a time yesterday trying to use RR and coupons. Went to 4 different Walgreens in South County. All the cashiers were giving me trouble. Wouldn't let me use coupon and RR together. I'm totally confused.

  12. The biggest quirk to remember at Walgreens is the item/coupon count. The register will not accept more coupons than items you purchase and a RR is considered a coupon.

If you're unhappy with Walgreens you should contact Walgreen Corporate.

  13. Not happy at walgreens go to cvs.........You can't give more coupons then items. The computer will not let them..Don't blam the cashier for that. Put yourself in there shoes....Be nice Bailey

  14. I can hardly wait until CVS opens in St Louis. The few times I've been able to go to a CVS, it seemed so much easier than Walgreens.

  15. Just wondering if you can get more then one RR for different items. I know some times I've only gotten one when I went shopping for more than one item with RR attached.

  16. @Jessye

Hi Jessye - Yes you can get multiple RR in one transactions, depending on the situations.

They would have to be for different offers and from different manufacturers. If Crest & Gillete Razors both have a RR offer, I would split them into two transaction, since they are both P&G products.

Some shopppers have come up with a formula of how you can get two RR from the same manufacturer in the same transaction, but I just don't go there. It's not worth the hassle for me.
