Aldi Price Check - Hams

February 21, 2010

I was quite surprised with Aldi this week. They didn't have any produce at a rock bottom price. I'm not sure this has happened since I've shopped at Aldi.

But, at the store I shop they had a special price on spiral sliced hams - additional $5 off. I picked up one of the smaller hams, a little over 8 lbs., and it ended up costing me about .88 per pound (regularly $1.49 lb.)

Edit: I was going to fix the ham for dinner last night, but when I opened the package I wasn't sure it was still good. I'm going to return the ham and find out how Aldi's Double guarantee works.

If you haven't shopped at Aldi, or it has been a while:
1. Make sure you have a quarter to unlock a shopping cart. The carts are like luggage carts at the airport. You rent them for a quarter, and you get your quarter back when you return the cart.
2. Take your own bags. Aldi does not provide free bags for your groceries.
3. Aldis now accepts debit cards.
4. Aldis does not accept coupons

  1. My understanding is that a small recent increase in inflation were due to fuel and food prices going up on the wholesale level. Guess we are now going to see higher prices at the store. Plus, once up, rarely does become cheap again.

  2. I've shopped at Aldi for years and there are weeks when they don't have the good produce buys (typically in the summer oddly enough). They will come again. Unfortunately, I was hopping for grapes again - my family went through 4 lbs of grapes and we're almost finished with the 8 lbs of oranges I bought last week!

  3. Hi kas - I agree once prices increase they usually don't go down again. I think I'm somewhat spoiled becaue there have been great deals this past year.

Hi Katy - I was hoping for cheap grapes again too. They were fantastic. Although, this week's price isn't bad.

Yesterday, I circled the produce area twice looking for the rock bottom deal of the week. I hope I won't have to next week.
