Post-Dispatch Coupon Preview - 10/3/10

Effective Sunday, October 3rd, the retail price of the Sunday Edition of the Post-Dispatch is increasing to $2.00.  I would imagine the $1 price at the DEAL$, Dollar Tree and Sam's will also increase.  Get out and buy your extra papers today!

Sunday's St Louis Post-Dispatch has Three coupon inserts - SmartSource, Redplum and General Mills .

NO $10 off $50 at Shop 'n Save on Thursday
NO Reader Rewards Coupon this week either.

A few if my favorite coupons this week:

Smart Source
  • $4 off Schick Hydro 5 or 3 Razor
  • $1 off Schick Hydro Shave Gel
  • $1 off Celestial Seasoning Tea
  • $1 off Mentos Gum
  • .75 off Heinz Ketchup
  • .40 off Fleischmann's Yeast
Redplum
  • $2 off 2 Nivea Lip Care
  • $1.25 off Dove Body Wash
  • $1 off McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract
  • $1 off Toll House Refrigerated Cookie Dough
  • $1 off Crisco Olive Oil
  • $1 off Nivea Lip Care
General Mills
  • .50 off Betty Crocker Muffin Mix
  • .40 off Betty Crocker Cookie Mix

Remember: You want multiple coupons to use when a product is at a rock bottom price. When it's a good coupon insert week, I purchase 4 or 5 papers and sometimes acquire more. At first, I thought it was crazy to spend money to save money. But I've always saved much more than my $1 investment.

DEAL$, Dollar Tree and Sam's Club sell the Sunday Post-Dispatch for $1. The early edition is published on Saturday and it includes all the coupon inserts. And, they usually have Sunday papers left on Monday. Find the Deal$ , Dollar Tree or Sam's Club closest to you.

  1. This increase in the price will hurt anyone selling a Sunday paper in front of a house of worship, on a street corner or in the middle of North Grand. I'm guessing some in the past gave the vendor a couple bucks and feeling generous, just said, keep the change.

Way back when my father was a kid, he pulled a cart around his neighborhood hawking papers on a Saturday night. For each nickel copy sold, he got two cents. I seriously doubt that kid selling papers tomorrow in front of a church will be pocketing anywhere near $.80

  2. The price increase sucks. I'm already paying over $8 a month for the Sunday paper to be delivered. And they dont even have to notify subscribers when the price is going up? Thats not right. If the home delivered paper wasnt the only way to get the weekly tv listings, I wouldnt bother to have a subscription.

  3. Hi Angie - From the info in today's Saturday paper delived to my house, the newstands will no longer have the Saturday paper. The early edition of the Sunday paper (avialable on Saturdays) will have the sections that used to be in the Saturday paper.

The paper deliverd this morining has almost nothing in it. I think the free Journal has more pages.

  4. Hi kas - I agree the people selling papers at the corner can kiss any tips goodbye.

Hi CJ - I haven't heard if or how much the subscription price would go up. I guess we'll all know when we get our next bill.

  5. The subscription deals printed on multiple cardboard sheets (included with a Deal$ paper) seem not as good lately. I confirm no early paper at Deal$ and SnS 'early' ones are selling for two bucks. Before the internet and ESPN, it was important for many to know what the Cards or Blues did on Saturday night.

I expect thieves soon to be grabbing two or more papers from those yellow boxes that still offer a Sunday edition. Oh well, P-D could replace those machines with ones that dispense only one paper. But, I know of at least two locations to grab 'free' Sunday Journals and get most of this week MQ.

  6. Am sooo sad! I called Dollar Tree and they said that they don't and can't sell the Sunday Paper anymore because it's now $2 each. huhuhu :(

  7. Wow that's pretty unbelievable. I can't believe that I'm going to have to pay 8.00 dollars for 4 papers every Sunday. So much for coupons saving me money. :(

  8. Hi All--I just gave $2 bucks for my early edition. Other options might be to use Wags RRs or CVS ecbs if you have extra--but you can always ask friends, family, co=workers or neighbors to save their inserts for you-just another idea. HTH

  9. Deals won't sell till Sunday and they ar 2 dollars. But what I am concerned about is we haven't gotten our Journal that always comes on Friday evening. They must be going to stop that along with the price increase. I may have to do more coupon printing off the internet.

  10. Are all places selling the Sunday Post Dispatch for $2 now, or is there anyone selling for $1.50? I was pretty bummed this morning when I went to my local Dollar Tree to purchase the paper for my coupons and saw the sign that they are no longer selling the Post Dispatch because of the price increase.

  11. I purchased the Post Dispatch early edition today at Walgreens for 1.50.

  12. The sign at Sam's said the Sunday paper will now be $1.50 instead of .99. I think it stinks they raise the price and get rid of the Reader Rewards all in the same weekend.

  13. I got my Journal this morning. Yipee!!!

  14. Hi Everyone - We have been really lucky in St Louis that the Sunday paper has been priced at $1.50 for so long and could pick them up for $1 several places.

I sure don't want to pay more for the paper, but I'm average $136 a week in savings because I use coupons. Of course, that saving number includes not only coupons, but buying products on sale, stockpling, taking advantage of Register Rewards, Catalina deals, ECB.....

I don't want to go back to my old ways of being a slave to the stores and having to pay full price on what I thought I needed for the week. Using coupon has made me rethink everything about the way I shop. A few extra dollars a week, although not wanted, is little to pay for my "new way of life."

  15. Hi Anonymous - Thanks for the Sams info. I hope we will find a few other places that will sell the paper at $1.50, also.

  16. I just got an email response from Post Dispatch Customer Service about the home delivery price, it will remain at $1.68 per Sunday issue. So now home delivery is actually a cheaper deal than the newstand.

  17. I was in Tampa last week and I got their double paper! Two papers, double coupons for $1.25!!! Love it!

DH just went to our Sams and told me that he paid $1 each for the Sunday papers. (I love that he is so conditioned now that when I am too tired to head out, he asks if I want him to go pick up papers!)

  19. Be grateful you've been able to get them for $1 up til now! We moved to Wisconsin and I was shocked to find out the State Journal costs $2.00! The only place to get a paper in our tiny town is the gas station and the State Journal doesn't even have all the coupons in it usually (our Red Plum inserts stink!). I pretty much just only buy a paper when the P&G insert comes out. I print a few more online than I used to, but I still save tons of money with the few inserts I do get.

  20. Hi CJ - Thanks for the info on home delivery

Hi Sherrie - Wow! I wish the Post-Dispatch would offer a special price for the Sunday. I've heard of serveral places in the country that offer "couponers specials." I sure with they would here.

Hi Emily - Thanks for the encouraging words to all of us in St Louis. We were really lucky to pay so little for so long.

  21. I was just coming to tell you, Dollar Tree isn't carrying the paper because of the increase. My husband had to run down to Walgreens for me.

  22. Why did they get rid of Reader Rewards? I checked yesterday's paper and it's not there.

  23. Hi Anne - It sounds like the Dollar Tree and Deals are not longer going to carry the paper because of the increase :(

This was the first week with out a Reader Rewards coupon since they started. CJ remembers that it was only suppose to be a summer promotion.
