Saved 67% This Week

Besides a quick trip to CVS (where I used five coupons), I didn't clip or use another coupon all week.  It was enjoyable to take a brief coupon vacation.  I'm all rested up for the big onslaught of great deals that will be coming the next few weeks.

CVS
I'm lovin' CVS's $5 off $20 coupons that has been in the last few Sunday Post-Dispatches.  It comes at a perfect time of year with the diabetes meters on sale.  I'm growing my ECBs to purchase an Entertainment Book just  for the $5 off $50 Shop 'n Save coupons, and the free McDonald's Frappe.

Before sales & coupons: $27.55
Spent: $0.00 + $2 in ECBs
Saved: $27.55 for a 100% savings

Sappington Farmers' Market

Yes, two trips to Sappington Farmers' Market.  I stopped there on Sunday to pick up stew meat and a sirloin tip roast that was on sale.  Sunday afternoon isn't the time of week to find a well stocked meat department.  They were out of the roast until Monday, but they had London Broil marked down.  Way down, because it was close to its use by date.  I don't care what the date is when all I'm going to do is put it in the freezer.

I fixed stew on Monday.  Stew is not my favorite meal, but the guys in the family love it - they will even eat Dinty Moore.  I have to say, the stew meat was the best I have ever had.  I had to go back for more - I might actually start to like stew with that quality of meat.

Comparable Schnucks Price: $80.68
Spent: $29.78
Saved: $50.90 for a 63% savings

Dierbergs
Since I was back to Sappington Farmers' Market on Tuesday, I stopped in at Dierbergs to see if they had any meat marked down.  I've had success finding "manager specials" the first day of the new ad. And I was in luck. Both ground chuck and chicken tenders were marked down to $1.99 lb.  I should be well stocked on beef for awhile.

Before sales: $43.69
Spent: $23.58
Saved: $20.11 for a 46% savings

Aldi
Comparable Schnucks price: $21.75
Spent: $13.11
Saved: $8.67 for a 40% savings

Weekly Totals
Before sales & coupon: $173.7
Spent: $66.47 - $10.00 rebate I received = $56.47
Saved: $117.20 for a 67% savings

Year to Totals
Spent: $1,841.62 ($40 weekly average)
Saved: 6,625.45 ($144 weekly average)

Splurge Funds: $94.26

For those who don't read my blog on a regular basis, my splurge funds are the difference between what I've actually spent and my $50 budget. I use it for those items I never find on sale or that I don't have coupons for.

  1. I dont buy much meat so I hardly ever look in the meat dept. Is there a certain day that most stores mark down their meat?

  2. Hi CJ - I don't think there is a certain day stores mark down meat. But I have a luck at Dierbergs on Tuesdays.

  3. Hi, CJ. I have noticed that at 8am-9am, weekdays, I will usually find the manager's special on meat at some grocery stores. The usual marked down price per pound is $1.99. Hope this helps. :)

  4. Jeri and coupon.girl - Thanks, 8am is a little early for me to be up and shopping! I'll have to look more often, I usually am just in and out of the store so fast I dont bother to look.

  5. I didn't shop like I normally would this week. I didn't clip as many coupons and just watched sales. I spent far more than I wanted to - just goes to show me how much money I do save by couponing!

Sometimes, though, you just need a break. :)
