I'm just back from CVS. The 30% off offer for this weekend is for online orders only.
Since 7 a.m. this morning, the graphic on CVS's website has changed. It no longer includes the words "in-store."
The manager I spoke with was unaware this info had been on CVS's website. He told me some of CVS's best customers might have gotten a 30% discount card by mail, but he was unaware of a 30% off promotion for the general public.
I feel for the employees and managers at CVS this weekend. Someone at the corporate level messed up and the stores are going to have to deal with mistake.

I just got back from CVS, I printed the page that said in-store and online and took it with me. The manager was confused by this also, but was nice enough to accept it. I am thankful for this. Even though CVS updated their site, to online only, they need to give their loyal customers (or ExtraCare Card Holders) something in return.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous - I'm glad it worked out for you. I really feel for those managers this weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhen I spoke to the manager at the store I shop I jokingly said "CVS could pull a "kmart" and just remove the page and act like it never existed." Little did I know they would just remove some of the wording.
I am NOT a happy camper. Sigh....
ReplyDeleteI wonder what cvs would do if we called to complain. The graphic they had up all week advertised in store as well. It wasn't like a momentary fluke.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of complaining also. Talked to the Shift Supervisor and Manager about it at the South City store who went to CVS site to check about this promo. Manager said there was also a customer there at 7am who asked about it-- Ms. Jeri? :I
ReplyDeleteManager told me that he would let me use the 30% off for Family and Friends of employees. I didn't bother to use it when he mentioned the EXCLUSIONS. Slipped my mind to buy the Sunday paper. Oh well...
Oh, talked to the Manager about the tax computation also at their store. Seemed like he really is not into fixing the problem. He just said that he already told corporate about it and there's nothing he can do more. Maybe it's time to call the Tax Revenue Center, Ms. Jeri. hmmmm.
ReplyDeleteLast night, I had a 99cents EB adjusted down to 67cents but I still paid 28cents OOP for my order for the tax. And this was my 3rd visit to the store which took more or less 20 minutes plus (4) very nice cashiers to check me out who I think (3) were still new and learning the EB rainchecks/CVS coupon procedure. My hubby was not in a good mood anymore when we finally left after an hour inside the store with just (4) items. I earned $4 EBs though which made me feel like I don't have the right to complain. :I
The new store on olive is still having tax problems also. My subtotal after qs and ecbs was 1.04 but my total was 2.84 because of tax. Is this a state regulation or is it determined by municipality?
ReplyDeleteIt's my understanding that it's state law to not charge tax on coupon items, but I cant find the statute. Maybe the BBB or Attorney Generals office would have more info? I dont always check my receipts carefully but I dont think I pay tax on coupon items at most of the stores I shop at.
ReplyDeleteI just sent an email to the MO Attorney General's office, will let eveyrone know if I hear anything.
ReplyDeleteI checked my receipts today from 4 different retailers all in unincorporated St Louis County and I was only charged tax on after coupon totals.
Hi All - I just posted info and a link to the state statute about sales tax. It's not easy to find online. I spent way to much time searching for it and then remembered I had referenced the statute in an email.
ReplyDeleteCoupon.girl - I think it was closer to 8 Saturday morning when I was at CVS.
I like the manager at that store, but it's taking those employees a very long time to catch on. I'm not sure some of them are every going to get the hang of it. I might have to make the extra drive to the store down at Gravois/Germainia.
I also talked to him about the tax. He dosen't know what to do.
When I was there today I didn't get charged sales tax. I paid $0.00 out of pocket after a ECB. Is it just coupons getting taxed and not ECB's? Now, I'll have to dig out my old receipts and investigate.
In Illinois we pay tax on precoupon price. But CVS and Kohl's both have it in their systems to not charge tax on their 'cash/ incentive coupons'.
ReplyDeleteHi Tonya - Do you pay tax on food in IL and do you pay tax on the value of a Register Reward?
ReplyDeleteWe pay tax on EVERYTHING ! :). Our state food tax (as long as the sugar content is not too high) is 1.25% some cities add to that. Our 'high tax' (chocolate, candy and soda fall in this category) is at least 7.25% plus whatever the local city adds. We do pay tax on pre register reward totals. I didn't realize Missouri was different or I might do all my free coupons over there when I go to Costco. Everything non food falls into the high tax. Magazines and newspapers are 0 tax but some magazines don't count. I think the 'rag mags' are taxed. It has been almost 7 years since I worked in a grocery store. Some exceptions elude me now
