Saved 76% This Week

It was too cold and snowy to think about shopping this week. I'm glad I hit the drugstores and Aldi on Sunday, but there were a few things I wanted to pick up at Schnucks and Shop 'n Save.

I had my husband go out and warm up the car for me on Thursday evening. My goal was to get in and out of the store before the car got cold again.  My plan almost worked - if I hadn't had to wait at Customer Service for a rain check for Crunch 'n Munch dog treats.  Darn dog!

Walgreens
I thought I had a $3 Register Reward around somewhere, but I either spent it last week, or put it somewhere that I wouldn't lose it - never to be seen again. That's ok.  I was ready to take a break from Walgreens.

The only reason I even stopped for Mac  & Cheese is that I'm going to ship them to my oldest in his care package.  A poor college student will eat anything.

Before sales & coupons: $8.85
Spent: $0.50
Saved: $8.35 for 90%

CVS
With CVS's good deal on Charmin, it was time to spend my ECBs.  It's hard to find a great price on Charmin.  Spending ECBs is about as good as it gets.

Before sales & coupons: $40.20
Spent: $4.17 and $20 in ECBs
Saved: $36.03 for 90% savings and earned $11 ECB

Schnucks
I'm well stocked on cereal, but couldn't pass up the Catalina deal on Bunches of Oats.  The Post Catalina paid for my bakery buns. Even though Shop 'n Save had buns for $1, I could buy better buns within my budget.

Before sales & coupons: $34.20
Spent: $8.49
Saved: $25.71 for 75% savings

Shop 'n Save
The lady behind me in line was marveling at my great savings, while I was cringing I had spent so much on so little. I've gotten used to some fantastic savings, and if I don't save at least 90% at Shop 'n Save I feel like it wasn't a very good day.

Before sales & coupons: $42.87
Spent: $11.46
Saved: $31.41 for 73% savings

Aldi
My family loves fresh pineapple and when Aldi has it for $0.99 I get several.  At that price, I should figure out if or how to freeze it.

Comparable Schnucks price: $23.94
Spent: $10.12
Saved: $13.82

Weekly Totals
Before sales & coupons: $150.06
Spent: $34.74
Saved: $115.32 for 76% savings

Year to Date Totals
Spent: $142.70 ($48 weekly average)
Saved: $383.11 ($127 weekly average)

Splurge Funds: $198.20

For those who don't read my blog on a regular basis, my splurge funds are the difference between what I've actually spent and my $50 budget. I use it for those items I never find on sale, don't have coupons for, or when I'm over budget.

  2. I was cringing at Shop n' Save, too. This coupon lady just wasn't crazy enough to drive to Crestwood on Thursday. I couldn't pass up the Keebler deal and .88 whole wheat pasta, though. I was walking through the store thinking, "I can't believe I'm shopping on Friday."

  3. Though I've never tried it, I've read that pineapple can be frozen. I bought 2 @ Aldi's this week. I think I'll try freezing a few chunks to see what happens. I can always use it in smoothies if thawing makes it gross, lol!

  6. Hi All - I surprised myself even venturing out at all to go grocery shopping this week.

Kelly - Keep me posted if the freezing pineapple experiment works.

  7. Curious about the pineapple - was that an advertised price somewhere or did you happen to see it in the store? I rarely see Aldi's flyers so I'm curious...

    thanks!!

  8. Hi Melissa - Aldi does send out a local ad in the St Louis area. It includes 4 or 5 "produce picks". But, I never get it in my neighborhood so, I'm not sure if it's everyweek.

Aldi changes produce prices on Sunday in the St Louis stores. I shop at Aldi on Sunday and then post on Monday the "produce picks" and track the other produce prices and dairy prices.

You'll find my Aldi posts in the More Deals tab in my blog header. I think these prices are regional, but again, I'm not sure how big the regions is.
