Save-A-Lot Deals - Good Through 2/12/11
Most Save-A-Lot stores are independently owned. Corporately, they advocate for stores to accept coupons, but it is up to the individual owners on whether or not they accept coupons.
I haven't had any problems using coupons at the few stores I've shopped at in the St Louis area. But, before you shop, it's a good idea to ask the store manager what their coupon policy is.
Take a look at Save-A-Lots current ad. Since stores are independently owned, some store might not be honoring this ad. Check online before you go.

Ok so I hate to be a grocery snob but I am wondering is there a difference between the can goods at Save a lot and those of other stores. Why are they cheaper? The Save A Lot near me is really kind of gross so I never buy food there. However we are out of tomatoes and the Red Gold are bigger and cheaper than the ones at Dierburgs this week. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa - The Save-A-Lot by me is not my favorite store to shop at either - the store close to hme is kind of gross too. But, they are franchises and from what I hear some of the stores are much nicer than others.
ReplyDeleteWhen Save-A-Lot has a brand name, they are the same products as you'll see at the grocery store. Check the use by dates, they could be shorter than what you see on the shelf at other stores. But, I don't have any problem buying packaged goods at a store like Save-A-Lot.
There could be a lot of different reasons why they can offer them so much cheaper than other stores, including being a loss leader. A good price on a brand name product, might bring people in the door that don't usually shop there.
Thanks Jeri I have actually been to a Save A Lot in Fenton that was very nice but I will check the dates for sure:)
ReplyDeleteThe Save-A-Lot in Overland is not bad at all. I don't shop there often, but we are thinking about doing a comparison with Aldi and maybe adding them into the rotation. Aldi is just so convenient, as it is right on the way home from work for hubby, so he usually does the Aldi run.
ReplyDeleteAs for the lower prices at Save-A-Lot, I think most of it has to do with lower overhead. They are fairly similar to Aldi with regard to how things are stocked and they are a no-frills store. I don't think they spend as many marketing dollars as well. I haven't had a problem with anything I have tried there and there are a few benefits over Aldi. A lot of the produce items are individual, instead of packaged, so you can get just as much as you need; the do often have some name brand items that are often offered at good prices and they take coupons. I would say it is at least worth giving them a try once. If you don't like how Aldi is set up, you probably won't like Save-A-Lot either, though.
HTH!
Thanks Staci for the review. I stick with Aldi if I were you. Have to love hubby making the stop.
ReplyDeleteI think Staci is right on why the prices are cheaper. We shop there all the time for milk and bread. I don't tend to find coupons for applesauce and their jar is about $1. I love their brand bread - prefer it to many other name brands.
ReplyDeleteThey are part of the SuperValu chain.
Before couponing I shopped there almost exclusively. It is almost in walking distance to our house and I have never had an issue with their quality.
A few years ago, I compared SaveALot and Aldi prices on many items. You will find each to have some lower and some higher - probably evens out and just depends on the store you prefer to shop at b/c the prices are so close to each other.
Thanks for you insight, Andrea!
ReplyDeleteThank you to the poster that said the Fenton Save-A Lot is nice. I find it to a nice store and so are the cashiers. I find their canned corn and sweet potatoes to be fine. I am a green bean snob so Del Monte for me. What I do (when I find time) is walk through the store and make note of all the name-brand items in stock. I then go home to a coupon database and look up matching q's (i.e. Hamburger Helper, Trail Mix, etc). If you can find the product in stock with a matching Q...you can find some amazing deals. Stock in these stores (other than their brand) is not steadfast. I have found their produce to be fine and many diary items as well. The most important to me is that they take Q's where the other discount grocery store in town does not.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous- Thanks for your review also.
ReplyDeleteI wish the store close to me was nicer. It's in an really old store that was a National. It doesn't look like they have put a penny into the store since they opened.
