Saved 69% This Week

I got out to do some shopping last weekend. I'm  glad I did because our street turned into an ice rink  (I'm still waiting for the Zamboni to go by), and the driveway became a Bobsled Run with the finish line in the neighbors front yard.  We could have held the winter Olympics on our street.

Thanks goodness for a stockpile. In years past, I would have been a world of hurt. I would not have been able to make those couple three fill-in trips back to the store. I'm sure you know those types of trips - one item you need to fix dinner turns into a $25 purchase.

Schnucks
I used my rain check and coupons to pick up the Crunch 'n Clean for free.  And, Malt-O-Meal was free after coupons, so all I paid for was juice and broccoli.

Before sales & coupons: $34.85
Spent: $1.37
Saved: $33.48 for a 96% savings

Target
Last Saturday, was date night for my husband and I at Target.  When you have a teenager in the house, you can't pick up too many frozen pizzas.

Before sales & coupons: $50.91
Spent: $18.20
Saved: $32.71 for a 64% savings

Aldi
Comparable Schnucks price: $30.24
Spent: $17.00
Saved: $13.24 for a 44 % saving

Weekly Totals
Before sales & coupons: $116.00
Spent: $36.57
Saved: $79.43 for a 69% savings

Year To Date
Spent: $248.07 (41 weekly average)
Saved: $622.18 (104 weekly average)

Splurge Funds: $242.83

For those who don't read my blog on a regular basis, my splurge funds are the difference between what I've actually spent and my $50 budget. I use it for those items I never find on sale, don't have coupons for, or when I'm over budget.

Last year, I spent my extra splurge funds for a freezer.  This year, I'm saving them to redo my pantry.

  1. Where did you get the maltomeal coupons?
I bought 1 bag of cereal and my kids ate it in a day. Sheesh.

  5. Hi All - I shopped at Schnucks last Sunday so I picked up the Malt-O-Meal from last week's sale.

But, the $2/2 coupon dosen't expire until 2/28/11 so you might find another deal before they expire.

  6. WTG Jeri,

Another great shopping week for you. =) Are we going to get before/after pictures of the pantry? I hope so. =)

  7. Hi Janet - Several years ago, before the economy tanked, we had started remodelling the kitchen/pantry. We were going to do it in phases. Yeah, hadn't planned on less income.

We live in an old house that has a walk through pantry between the kitchen and dining room. Someone had reconfigured the set up years ago, so there was no original cabnitrey left, just really horrid shelving. We pull those out and took down a "little" wall to open it up some. The space is about 5' x 12' so I'm thinking of putting a run of cabinets in it. But, with the closest Ikea 5 hours away, I have to have my plans and money together before we make the trip.

  9. Thanks, Anonymous! I was at Schnucks last Sunday the last day of the advertised sale and the store I was at had tons of Malt-O-Meal left. I can see why the extended the price.
