Walgreens Field Notes - Week of 3/21/11

A few additional comments for what is going on with Walgreens sales this week.  See this week's Deals and coupon match-ups HERE.

  • Almay  -  I stopped at three stores before I found one still stocking Almay.  The store's  in my area are remodeling/lowering the shelves, and the stores that have reset their cosmetic wall no longer carry the brand.

    • Almay Coupon - There was some discussion on how $2 Almay coupon in the Beauty Guide would affect the 30% discount, because it is a store coupon.  My cashier could not get the coupon to scan, so she manually entered it as a manufacturer coupon.  Did anyone else find Almay, did the coupon scan, and if did, is the 30% discount before or after the coupon?

      • FREE Snickers Eggs  -  Kelly in St Charles found Snickers Eggs for $0.50.  Use the $1 off 2 Mars Easter Product coupon in 3/20/11 RP to pick two up for free.  (Thanks, Kelly!)

      • If you have any additional info for Walgreens this week, please leave a comment.

        1. The Almay coupon wouldn't scan for me either. The cashier manually entered the price of the makeup, subtracting $2. Couldn't find the Snicker's eggs...

        2. The Snickers eggs were in the Easter section at my store. 2/$1 is the regular price and apparently they are going to be on sale for $.29 next week, so you might want to save your coupons.

        3. Hi Amanda - That Almay coupon was strange. It didn't have a Wags number on it for the cashier to enter. Wags coupons and % off still confuse me. I was hoping to figure it out with the Almay. I guess I'll still be confused.

          Thanks, JB!

        4. Does anyone know if the .29 price for the Snickers eggs next week is a sale price, or is it an in ad coupon price? If its a sale price and they ring up at .29 each my Wags wont reduce the $1/2 coupon. If its an in ad coupon and they ring up at .50 each, I could get .42 overage with the in ad coup and $1/2 coup.

        5. Hi CJ - I just checked an ad scan. The $0.29 price is the sale price - no in-ad coupon needed.

        6. CJ, If you have 1 coupon you can buy 4 for $1.16 and get them for $.16 AC or buy 7 for $2.03 and get them for $.03 if you have 2 coupons.

        7. Here is my experience with the Almay coupon.

Yesterday my Walgreens store did not have the Almay coupon programmed in their system, so they reduced the price for me. Today I was able to test the Almay coupon at a couple other Walgreens. It is a VERY unusual coupon. It does not appear to be a Walgreens coupon as $2 (rather than $1.40) was deducted when scanned. That would seem to mean it was a manufacturer's coupon. However, if that was true, it would have meant it counted towards the coupon/item match-up. But I did not need a filler when I used it! So this coupon has the advantage of a manufacturer's coupon ~~ full $2 reduced ~~ and the advantage of a Walgreens coupon ~~ not taking a coupon spot! This is a great coupon!

        8. Thanks JB for doing the math when you buy multiple Snickers eggs.

Hi CK - Thanks for figuring out how that Almay coupon worked. Do you suppose all the coupons in the Spring Beaty coupon book work this way?

        9. Ref the Snickers eggs - being the frugal person I am, .16/4 wasnt a good enough price for me, so I got 2 for free with my one $1/2 coupon. Then today I found a $2/2 coupon for them in a magazine. Will have to buy 4 to avoid the beep but they'll be free.
Dove candy bars are on sale for .49. Use the .75/2 coupon from the 3/13 inserts to get 2 for .23.
I finally found the small size Dial Nutriskin lotion at the Crestwood Wags for .99 but didnt have my coupons with me. They're in a plastic bin in the short aisles in front of the beauty counter if anyone else is looking for some.

        10. I noticed that at least one of the coupons in the beauty book was an MQ. I think it was the one above the almay coupon. It said something to the effect that it could be used at any discount store accepting coupons. (I think).
I don't know what that means when you go to use any of the others, but it is a other oddity with the book. :)

        11. Thanks, CJ!

Hi Tonya - Good catch with the ROC coupon being a manufacturer coupon. I think it would be really hard to get any other retailer to accept it (except maybe CVS) because it doesn't say Manufacturer coupon on it anywhere even though it is.
