TLC Extreme Couponing at Shop 'n Save

You'll want to set your DVR for TLC's new episodes of Extreme Couponing airing on Wednesday, April 6th at 8:00 and 8:30 pm CDT.  The 8:30 episode includes Rebecca at Shop 'n Save.

From the press release:

"Some of the people profiled in the series include Montgomery Village, MD’s J’aime, a paralegal who brings her prides herself on her couponing professionalism while scoring $1900 worth of merchandise for $103; Jessica, from Caldwell, ID, who spent just $7 for $680 worth of goods; St Louis, MO’s Rebecca is a second-generation stockpiler who takes home $542 of items for $25; and it only costs Tiffany from Spring, TX $40 to take home items valued at $1100."

Coupon STL reader Nicole saw TLC filming  at Shop 'n Save the week of 2/14/11. It might be fun to try and figure out what Rebecca bought before you see the show.

I've been in contact with Rebecca and she has agreed to write a guest post - stay tuned.

  1. It would be so funny if they had the rude guy cashier that I had to see if he huffs & puffs at all of their coupons!!

  2. Oof, It's just my opinion but I can't stand that show. It makes me feel like I've been dabbling in crazy. I'm totally aware that this is extreme and most of us are just coupon users who regularly save a good amount of money, but I watch and think to myself "Am I that crazy?" And I also watch what they buy, and a lot of it is junk.

But then again, my boyfriend has seen parts of the show and appreciates how I can save without becoming extreme/weird about it! :)

  3. well... I "AM" dabbling in crazy, I don't need a TV show to tell me that.

Of course, that doesn't (generally) have anything to do with my couponing... ok, sometimes.

  4. Hi Rachelstl - I bet all the employees were told not to huff & puff when TLC was in the store.

Hi Anonymous - I agree with you in many ways. There were alot of things that bothered me about the first show. But, I did like the lady from Philly. She seemed reasonable and very was helpful to other shoppers in the store.

I bet TLC accomplished what they wanted to with the first show being so far over the top. I even heard Extreme Couponing mentioned on NPR.

  5. Crestwood ALWAYS gives me problems with my coupons. They do not like them.

I prefer the Chippewa store. They are much nicer and the Manager is very nice.

Crestwood was the one that won't take Smart Source Printable coupons. They said they aren't verified.

  6. Oh ArmyMom! - A neighbor and I were talking about the first Extreme Couponing show and we both agreed it wouldn't take someone filming at our houses very long to get a "crazy clip"

  7. Hi 2LittleMonkeys - I've only shopped at Crestwood a couple of times. They are the only store that you can take advantage of $10 off $50 every week, since they match Sappington Farmers' Market's coupon.

I don't the Chippewa store because the aisles go the wrong way. It makes me feel like I'm driving on the wrong side of the road. But, I agree the only time I've dealt with the manager he was extremely good to work with.

  8. ArmyMom I totally agree...I'm all kinds of crazy but its not the coupons that make me that way. lol

I guarentee that no one with a camera in their face will huff and puff over coupons. I shop the Crestwood store all the time and rarely have issues...unless its user error like i tried to use a coupon for the wrong thing. Meh, we all make mistakes sometimes ;)

  10. Just curious - do we know which SNS location Rebecca was filmed at?

  11. The only cashier at Crestwood that I've had a problem with was a big dark haired guy...I think his name is Mike everyone else there is very nice & I love that they honor the $10/$50 from Sappington Farmer's Market.

    CJ it's the Crestwood store

  12. CJ- Rebecca was filmed at the Crestwood SNS store. I got to watch a few minutes of the filming because the store manager asked me a few days prior if I was their "Extreme Couponer". I think she was shocked that I wasn't flattered. She ended up telling me about the upcoming taping.

  14. I am glad they are doing a basic store compared to the original episode it was at stores where you have a store discount card also.

  15. I did notice that the J'aime girl was the girl that got banned from a video site and had a really long nasty thread devoted to her at afullcup b/c of coupon fraud/incorrect usage...like a $10 off bounty ip coupon (yeah right). i am not happy to see her on this show.

  16. Why can't they show normal people who buy real stuff like meats, fruits & veggies? I know that savings won't be as wonderful, but there are ways to save.

  17. I think I'm going to enjoy watching the series, if only for the voyeur aspect and to make myself feel better about my crazy habits! haha

I do think sometimes "extreme couponing" turns into a race just to buy what you can for the best deal, regardless of need. Trust me, I get a thrill when I get great deals too! But when it becomes somewhat life-altering, then I think it's more of a problem than a hobby.

  18. Hi Lisa - We'll teach you how! Follow the deals and ask questions. Eveyone here is more than willing to help. It doesn't happen over night, but if your committed to saving money you will.

Anon - How interesting. I wonder if TLC vetted the people that are going to be on the show. It dosn't sound like it. I also wonder if they show someone commiting coupon fruad if they would be liable in any way.

Rachelstl - That wouldn't make for good TV! Just like the news leads with the the most frightening story they can come up with.

  19. Every Little Thing - Yes, I think some people can become obsessed with couponing. The people that make it work for the long term, find the balance (with only a few crazy moment).

    1. Hi Reina - The best source for coupons are the Sunday paper and printables from your computer. Couponing is not hard to learn as it might look at first. Start slow with one store or two and pick up the best deals. You'll get the hang of it quickly
