Walgreens $5 Scenario - Week of 7/24/11

The most cost effective way to shop at Walgreens is to roll Register Rewards - spend Register Rewards on products that trigger more. I suggest checking out at the Cosmetic Counter. Multiple transaction always go smoother at a less busy register.

If you are following my $5 Scenario's you have a $2 Schick and a $1 Colgate-Palmolive Register Reward to start this week's shopping.

Check out all of this week's Walgreens Deals.

NOTE: Word is, some store are now limiting the number of sale items you can purchase and the number of transactions allowed.  Check with the staff at your store before you shop.

Transaction #1
purchase:
(2) Scunci No Damage Hair Elastics (18 ct)  $3.00
use:
Schick Register Reward from last week - $2.00
Colgate-Palmolive Register Reward from last week - $1.00
= $0.00 + tax (if you pay in your state) out of pocket and get a $3 Scunci RR

Transaction #2
purchase:
(2) Oral-B Indicator Toothbrushes $4.98
(1) Mini Memo or Composition Book $0.99 (estimated price - needed as filler to get total high enough to use RR)
use:
(1) $2/2 Oral-B coupon (7/03/11 P&G) - $2.00
Walgreens in-ad coupon for Mini Memo or Composition book -$0.80
Scunci Register Reward from previous transaction -$3.00
= $0.17 + tax and get a $3 P&G RR

Transaction #3
purchase:
(2) Irish Spring Deodorant $6.00
(1) Mini Memo or Composition Book $0.99 (needed as filler to use RR)
use:
(2) $1 Irish Spring Deodorant coupons (7/24/11 SS) - $2.00
Walgreens in-ad coupon for Mini Memo or Composition book -$0.80
P&G Register Reward from previous transaction - $3.00
= $1.19 + tax out of pocket and get a $4 Colgate-Palmolive RR

Items purchased:
(2) Scunci Hair Elastics
(2) Oral-B Toothbrushes
(2) Irish Spring Deodorants
(2) Mini Memo or Composition Books

Total retail price before sales & coupons: $24.51
Total spent: $1.36 + tax for  a 95% savings

  1. Walgreens is just a stressful place to use coupons. There is one I go to sometimes after I drop my baby off at day care off Gravois and they are really nice to me there. But in general I get tense just wondering how checkout is going to go.

Too bad I'm hooked on the good deals!

  2. Hi Katheine - I agree it's an adventure shopping at Walgreens. But, the longer you coupon, the less stressful it gets.

You'll know the possbile snafus before you shop and the stores/cashier that are coupon friendly. Keep developing relationships with the cashiers/managers and show them you are a couponer that is honest and they can trust. They will be asking you for couponing advice soon.

  4. I have never had a problem at Walgreens, I go to the one mostly at Hampton and Gravois. I also go later in the evening, tends to be slower and cashiers are younger and less picky!

  5. Be on the lookout for BOGO packs of Scunci elastics. I bought four packs today and they trigger the RR just fine! =)

  7. If you guys can, come out my way. I'm out by the Lambert Airport. I use 3 different Walgreens out here. I have never had any problems, they are always very helpful and nice. I shop closer to the weekend and in the evenings, around 5pm.
