  1. The internet Keebler C.R. Cookie coupon that I see is for .70.

  2. I find your weekly grocery posts very helpful in deciding what to purchase and from where. I have started to get a bit confused though with the internet coupons. I know that Shop N Save and Dierbergs (maybe Schnucks too?) are no longer taking internet coupons that are over 50% of the retail price...but your site still lists these coupons, and I can't see any place that you've marked them as "not valid". For instance, your first match-up for Flav-R-Pac vegetables suggests that you can use an internet coupon and get those vegetables for $0.25. However, based on their policy, that coupon would be invalid. It would be helpful to me if you did not list internet coupons with an item that would not be accepted - or if you clearly marked them to show that this coupon is available to print but cannot be used on this item this week. I'm not sure how difficult it is for you to do that, and I am certainly grateful for the tips I have found here. So if I have to just try to remember when I can actually use the coupon and when I cannot based on each store's policies, then I will do just that. I appreciate the time you take to compile these lists each week. Jill

    1. Hi Jill - I've never had a coupon refused at either store because of the 50% rule. The 50% is of of regular retail price (price before the sale), so even if a coupon is less that half of the sale price, rarely is it less than half of the regular retail price.

I'll try to remember to mark coupons that are less than half of the sale price, so readers will beware to check the regular shelf price.

    2. At my store they don't care sale or retail price. What it rings up is what the cashier seems to care about. There are a couple cashiers I know will watch that rule, so I just try to avoid those IPs altogether also. Use the higher value at Schnucks - I have never been refused there.

    3. Jill, Since you have started to get a bit confused with the internet coupons, I suggest you do not use them. 3. The ShopNSave I shop at doesn't usually say anyhing about the over 50% internet coupons unless they won't scan in. The ONLY time I had issues was once with a "coupon gestapo" checker I had five 5 $1/2 coupons for totinos pizza rolls and was buying 10 packages at $1ea. She just couldn't understand that I could use it and refused to even try to scan the coupons. I explained to her that it was not OVER 50% but just at 50% and she still wouldn't take it. Had to have the manager called over & explain their own coupon policy to both the manager and the cashier. But finally they understood I was using my coupons according to policy. (Personally, I think the checker was just jealous that I was getting a great deal on the totinos promo a couple weeks ago. You could tell she thought that it was just horrible that after all my coupons (I had other items also that day) I was only paying $0.56 out of pocket for a half a cart of groceries!) All & all though, have to say that 99% of the time my shopnsave rocks!

    1. Hi Marina - Great shopping trip. Although, sometimes it takes thick skin and a strong backbone to use coupons.

At any store a cashier become difficult to deal with, I ask them to call the manager over. Managers want out business even when we use coupons.

    2. WOW!!!! Wonder if we shop at the same SNS?? There is a cashier at the store I go to that I will avoid at all cost. I'll even wait in a MUCh long line then let her check me out. She's old and grumpy all the time! This summer I even stopped shopping there for a few weeks she made me so mad. She looked at each cpn and then if I had multiples she would go back and count them to make sure I wasn't using too many. What really through me over the edge was when she asked if I had anything in the bottom of the cart and I said no. She still came around the counter and not only looked under the cart but in my cpn bag and under it by picking it up. Some cashiers are just nuts. I go to a Target store that there are a few cashiers that I avoid all the time. They make it so difficult that you leave with a headache, when I'm not even trying to do anything wrong. I dollow all cpn policies.

  4. Most of the time I'm couponing, the cashiers and management are very good, however, those few "bad apple" cashiers can really make it difficult. I'm a bit OCD about making sure that I am following all the rules with both the coupons and the store policies, so sometimes I'm very frustrated with knowing more about a cashier's job than they do. (However, I grew up in a family business, then spent 20 years in retail as both a manager and a field trainer and now own my own business, so bad manners from cashiers and lack of training really gets under my skin as a consumer). The stores I shop in usually recognized me as a regular and as time goes on I have less & less issues at check out. It's hard for the cashiers to give you grief when you walk into their line, smile and greet them by name! Add a "how are the kids" or a "missed you while you were on vacation" and you won't have nearly as many issues at checkout. A kind word/compliment to the cashier doesn't cost a cent and makes the trip so much more pleasant!
To me, couponing is the equivalent of having a part-time job with as much money as it saves our family. We've cut our shopping bills from over $500 a month down to less than $150 most months and that includes all the dog and cat food for our 4 furry babies! Plus we eat healthier now and have a closet stockpile of staples. When I think back to all the years I didn't coupon I'm just ill at how much money we wasted. I so agree with you Jeri, sometimes it really takes a strong backbone & think skin for couponing.....just glad I was born with both!

    1. Hi Marina - You are so true with what you are saying here.

Your relationship with the cashiers and store management mean everything when couponing.

I also think, in most cases, the bigger the retailer the worse the training is for the front line employees. Sometime I feel sorry for them. I feel like they are scared of couponers, because they feel they might lose there job if they take fraudulent coupons, but have no training to tell what is and what isn't legitimate coupons.
