  1. For the Tuf paper towels and Hershey candy, doesnt 100 points get us .10 off, not just a penny? If 1000 points = $1, 100 points should = .10?

    1. Hi CJ - Yes, 100 points = 10 cents. My mistake was that Tuf is on sale for $59 not what I put in my post. I must not have had enough coffee this morning to be thinking straight.

      Thanks for catching my Oops!

    2. $59?? Wow, paper towels have gotten expensive! Jeri, your typos make me smile :)

    3. I must keep you smiling often. I've been know for some doozies.

    4. Jeri - I needed that smile yesterday. After a crappy day at work, a guy at Wags yelled at me because his kid almost opened his car door into mine (not sure how this was my fault but he thought it was). Then at Aldi a guy kept bumping his cart into my behind (accidentally, I hope) and at SNS a lady nearly pushed me out of the way to get to the ground beef in front of me (I would have been out of her way in 3 seconds if she would have waited her turn). Some days shopping isnt any fun :(

  2. So... by store credit, do they mean RR? As in, if I pay with RR, I can't earn points on anything in that transaction?

It seems like they're really trying to cut down on people rolling rewards. I can see myself falling into a cycle of earning rewards one week, spending them the next, etc. And trying to do RR stuff in separate transactions... This could get confusing!!

    1. Kelly,

I am finding the Balance Reward points not as bad as I feared, but still there are major concerns. You may use RRs and still earn points. However, if you use Balance points to buy an item that earns Balance points you will not earn them. Balance points must be used in the amounts in the chart. If you buy something that costs $3, you would forfeit all 5000 points using that $5 value as a means of payment. On the flip side you could buy something for $4.99 and not need a filler to get to $5 or more. As you can see from the chart there are incentives for saving the points and using them on higher value transactions. The one advantage I can see is they don't expire in two weeks like RRs and none of the "one RR and/or coupon per item" nonsense.

I am finding them much more difficult to flip. Plus the values are much lower than RRs. Giving 100 points may sound like a lot, but it is only $.10. RRs are never that low. I know this new program will greatly reduce my Walgreens shopping. In my opinion CVS is much easier and definitely more couponer friendly.

Btw an assistant manager at my CVS was telling me they are opening more stores in the St. Louis area in October. Hopefully that will mean their ads will include some good coupons (such as $4 off $20) to kick off those grand openings.

    2. Thanks for the info. It is definitely going to take some trial and error to figure out the best ways to use this new system!

I'm excited to see a few CVS opening in St. Charles County. Right now the closest one to me will still be far away at K and N, but that's better than it used to be. I'm hoping for more soon!

  3. KC - Thanks for the info on how the rewards have to be redeemed. I mostly spend less than $10 at a time at Wags so I guess I'll have to use up my points when I get to $5 or $10 instead of saving them up since I never spend $20 or more at all at once. Not too thrilled with this part of the program :(
Hopefully the Maplewood CVS will be opening in October and I'll be able to get more deals there instead of going to Wags.

  4. Good to hear that more CVS's will be opening. Hope they open a CVS in Florissant. Closest location that I can tell is on Olive near 270, so I've never shopped CVS, yet!

  5. I found out today that balance points for the next week will start accumulating on Saturday. Also, the sale price will start for the next week. Tested it today and it worked. RR will not start on Saturday.

    1. Thanks, nskcsf! That could be very advantageous on a great deal when you know your store doesn't stock well, but keeping all these new "rules" straight might be a real mental workout.

    2. I scored 16000 pts on clear shampoo. 4.99 on sale - 3.00 cpn = 1.99 - 1.00 BR Sat - 1.00 BR Sun = + .01 plus I had RR that I rolled so I spent nothing. Did all 8 bottles in 1 transaction.

I'm not as impressed with the $ amounts of the BR this week and the RR are disappointing too.

  6. Is there a limit to how many items you can get the points on? For example the Nice Water = 500 points limit 3. I bought 3 yesterday. If I buy 2 more today will I still get the 500 point on them?

    1. Anonymous,

I wish I could answer this. Walgreens has changed Balance Rewards points and/or limits a couple different times mid week, so I would hate to try and guess a current answer. (Of course, each time was to the disadvantage of couponers.)

  8. I wish I would have read these post before going out this morning...I posted on a separate WAGS thread about loosing some of my balance rewards points....because I asked the casheir if I used my available $5 balance reward to pay for my $3.22 transaction....will I still have the rest of my available $ to use....the cashier said "Yes...of course!"......nope...even though its just $1.xx that I lost.....I'm very unhappy about it.

    1. Hi Jess - The next time you are in the store where a cashier told you that only the dollar amount of your purchase would be deducted from your Balance Reward points, I would talk to a manager. Not only did the cashier give you the wrong answer, but they are probably telling everyone that misinformation.

You should voice your complaint and hopefully the cashiers will get better training.

On another note, I read the terms & conditions of the new Balance Reward points with a fine tooth comb. No where did I see this issue addressed.
