I would love to show off your shopping trip, too. Email me at couponstl (at) gmail (dot) com with your picture, or post your picture on the Coupon STL Facebook page, and I'll make sure to get them posted.
If you haven't got in on Schnucks Super Doubles yet, see Schnucks Super Double's coupon match ups.
Jeri - Your hubby did good :) I'll try to photo my trips tonight and post tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteYes he did. He follows instructions very well.
DeleteJust wish my freezer wasn't so full from past Schnucks sales and meals from Time for Dinner. Good problem to have, I guess.
ReplyDeleteYou might be feeling that way a lot this month - March is Frozen Food Month.
DeleteWhen do we get to see a picture of your whole stockpile?
ReplyDelete:-)
Hi Jessi - I've tried to get a few pics before, but I have it stashed in several different places and lighting isn't the best. But, let me see what I can do.
DeleteI have the same problem -- stashed in several places (like under the bed) and bad lighting. I am inspired to organize mine in one place after seeing the super-organized ones on Extreme Couponing.
DeleteLooks like I need to find a great deal on shelving for both of us :)
DeleteAll I could think of when watching Extreme Couponing was - how much did they pay for all of that shelving?
I just got new bookshelves in my laundry room for the bulk of my stash. Its an OCD dream!
ReplyDeleteI had so much stuff in the freezer that I have been eating out of the freezer a lot the last couple weeks so now I have lots of room.
BTW, I used the $1 off fresh pork today at schnucks to get brats. I found the smallest packs possible and got them for a few cents each. Woohoo!
Hi Marcella - I had a few of those pork coupons too. I just sent hubby back to the store. I'm starting to feel guilty to ask him to go again. I told him to go to the meat counter and try to get some chops and have them wrap them individually.
DeleteIf you happen to shop at the Lindell store, keep a close eye on your coupons as they are being scanned. Half of mine didn't double correctly even when the cashier attempted to enter them manually. She asked me to pay at the register and go to customer service, which I happily agreed to do. The customer service lady then refused to accept the Planters coupon because it said "redeemable at Walmart" and wouldn't double the Sesame Street cereal coupon because it would be free. I ended up getting my money and coupons back and will go to another store.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, my transaction at the Arsenal store was easy, and I paid $0.25 for 3 Heinz gravy, 3 veggie chips, 6 Chex mix, and 3 Sesame Street cereal.
Hi Carrie - I've shopped at the store on Lindell and refuse to ever go back - even though my son goes to school almost next door to it.
DeleteThe store on the Hill (Arsenal) is much easier and nicer to shop at. The Hills store will run out of sale/coupon items and then I might stop at the store on South Grand. It will do in a pinch - most of the time - cashiers are clueless, but Customer Service is great.
I can only WISH my DH would actually go grocery shopping with and handful of coupons without me with him. Don't get me wrong, he'll gladly go along with me, hold the coupons, calculate totals, help find/sort the items (bag them if necessary). If he doesn't go along, he hauls the bags in and puts everything away tidy for me. I do tend to see more men shopping with handfuls of coupons these days (even today I saw 2)than I did in years past. Most just tag along with their SO/DW's. Just a rant...Any tips on how to encourage my DH I'll take! lol
ReplyDeleteCourtney - Mine was glad to go shopping, since he knew I was busy with my blog.
DeleteI'm sure your'e hubby love the saving you get using coupons, maybe sometime you could come up with something that you had to do, and ask him to go to the store for you? Something time sensitive like the end of a sale, or the first day and you're afraid the store will run out of the good deals.
I think the problem is he gets discouraged sometimes when a few times we run across a cashier who's a "coupon sheriff". He sees the time I put in getting things organized & matched up the haul just for someone who doesn't know to tell us they won't take XY or Z coupon & I have to explain etc. He's finicky like that. So he just backs off.
DeleteOops! I forgot to say, my husband always checks out at the self checkout lanes. I'm sure he's avoiding the "coupon sheriff" also.
DeleteSpeaking of the "coupon sheriff"... has anyone else had a problem getting cashiers to take the Planters coupon that says "redeemable at Walmart"? It took me three different stores before I got someone to take it, even though in the second store another cashier said that she uses coupons like that at the store all the time. I didn't argue because I don't want to leave a bad image for couponers but it's annoying when there's no consistency. Had to work for those $1.99 cashews - good thing they're worth it! :)
DeleteHi mccoyca - Several people have asked about this situation on Schnucks Facebook page. And here is their answer
Delete"If the coupon also says Manufacturer's Coupon (and not Redeemable ONLY at Walgreens) we should take it. Additional communication has been sent out to all our stores regarding these types of coupons."
It looks like the "additional communication" hasn't reached the checkers you used.
You should contact Schnucks
http://www.schnucks.com/contact_us.asp
Tell them where and even who you had problems using this coupon with. Obviously corp. wanted the store to accept the Planters coupon.
Speaking of hubbies and couponing....I notice that casheirs that give me trouble when I'm alone, NEVER give me any trouble and are nice as pie when I have my husband with me. I think its just funny. I mean...my husband is WAY HOT...I don't know if its because of that, or if its just the difference between the way men and women are treated...LOL!
DeleteIts a give and take...I'm treated better when he's with me...but I find random things that he sneaks into the cart getting scanned too! hehe
I too, think men sometimes get treated differently by female cashiers - even when they are not WAY HOT.
DeleteMy hubby used to come home with "extras" when he went shopping for me. And just his luck, it was always something I had a coupon for, or a great deal at a different store.
By the way, I was at Dierbergs yesterday evening and there was a man shopping with a fist full of coupons.
I KNEW I wasn't the only one out there having those issues. My DH doesn't want to create a scene, but I think when he gives "the look" that he's with me, there's "no prob BOB"! I don't want to have drag him out on every trip, but if I go to a store I find is a total nuisance (deputy coupon sheriffs: AKA Barney Fife type cashiers)I surely bring him along when he's able to go with me. Otherwise, I go myself . But it does help to diffuse any potential conflicts...
Deletei love this new coupon doubling/trippling in our area. I haven't gotten good deals in a while...
ReplyDeletemy totals so far..planning maybe a couple trips tomorrow too
dierbergs 52.18 after qs 12.73
schnucks 61.25 after qs 10.08
Thanks for all the matchups, I spent 5.92 at Schnucks today only because I splurged :) and bought 4 velveeta mac and cheeses for $1 each-the other 1.60 ish was spent on 2 pine sols and 2 lever. Also got the mayo, garlic bread and chex mix free. Going to try and round up some more coups and head back tomorrow!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Amber - I had to read your message to my husband. We both had a good laugh at , "because I splurged."
DeleteWhere are the Green Giant veggie chips? I couldn't find them in the store.
ReplyDeleteIn the chip aisle close to the Chex Mix. If you have the Schnucks app it should tell you the aisle number for your store.
DeleteWatch your receipts from Schnucks. When I went over mine last night I found almost $12 on nitems ringing up wrong. The Keebler Pretzel Bites rang up $3.39 instead of $1.88 and I had a couple of clearance items from the store resetting ring up at reg price. $1.47 instead of .50. I found out when I called that they no longer give back the $ on the first wrong item like Dierberg's does.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up. I'm sure part of the reason they are changing ad dates is so all their stores start and end dates on sales are the same. I can't imagine how much programming and sign changing must have to happen the grocery business.
DeleteAlthough, too bad Missouri. doesn't have any better consumer protection laws. Some states mandate that retailers give you the product for free if it rings up wrong.
I realized right after I checked out at Schnucks that my Miracle Whip rang up for $2.99 instead of $2 (which was advertised on the shelf)... so I paid $.99 instead of getting it for free. I thought about saying something, but I figured I got so many things for a measley $6.91 that I would have felt bad asking for another $1 (I'm a brand new couponer). But now that I'm thinking more about it, I should have mentioned it!!!
DeleteHI Angei - Welcome to the world of couponing. Couponing has made me a better consumer.
DeleteYou will be surprised at how many times something does wring up incorrectly. Those dollars start adding up. And, if you had of mentioned it, hopefully the store would have fixed the problem and the next customer wouldn't have overpaid either.
1st rule of couponing - You need a strong backbone and thick skin to coupon.
Now, I'm not saying anyone should be bitchy about a problem, but just strong willed to stand your ground when transactions don't happen as they should or are advertised.
Sorry Angie - my fingers are dyslexic this afternoon.
DeleteThanks, Jeri. Yep, you're right! I'm definitely going to pay closer attention and speak up next time. All those $1 discrepancies are going to add up after a while.
DeleteThis site is wonderful, by the way! I'm quickly becoming addicted to couponing because of this site. I used to dread going to the grocery store, but now it's FUN!
I used to dread going to the grocery store too. It seemed like I spent more and more money every week and still didn't have enough to put dinner on the table without those side trips back to the store.
DeleteWhat I think is fun now, is to make my meal plans with what I already have in my stockpile. It's really fun to come up with the weekly menu and only having to buy a few perishable products to make it work.
Can't wait for that!
DeleteI was in the car on my last trip to Schnucks today & was thinking THE EXACT SAME THING! WOW.
DeleteJeri,
What do you think about the idea of having meal plan suggestions posted only on weeks there's double/triple coupons? A post where members can submit meal ideas & recipes so we all can make best use of the deals we've gotten at next to nothing? I think it would help ALL of us to make the best utilization of the stockpile of items we bought until the NEXT BIG double/triple sales comes along.
We can call it Double/Triple coupon meal planning or something to that effect.
DeleteHi Courtney - Good idea. I've thought about a "Stockpile Recipe" post, but just haven't gotten that accomplished. I like you're idea of having readers submit recipe ideas.
DeleteI'm having a hard time thinking about what I would post this week, because I bought a lot of snack food.
I need to find someone that's good at graphics and works for cheap or fee to get a cute little picture for the post.
