Walgreens $5 Scenario - Week of 1/17/10

For the new couponer, Walgreens can be terribly confusing, but if you go in with a plan, shopping is much easier. You can bring home a ton of merchandise for very little money.

This week I've used a Mars candy bar as a filler. Fillers are needed at Walgreens because you can't use more manufacturer coupons than items purchased, and a Register Reward is considered a manufacturer coupon. Don't worry about counting the in-ad coupons, because they are not manufacturer coupons.

Take a look at this week's deals for where to find the coupons.

  2. Today I bought 5 12 paks of Dew, 2 Tostitos, 2 Wet Ones and a 4 pack of Starbucks Frappuchino. Used $17.50 in RRs and $3 in IPs to pay. Paid $6.50 OOP and got $12 RR back. Will also get a $10 rebate back for the Dew and Tostitos.

  3. Awesome savings! I was hoping to see if you were going to take advantage of the $10 register rewards for $20 purchase of Pepsi/Tostitos.

There's a Pepsi Superbowl rebate right now for $10 back off of $30 of Pepsi/Tostitos purchased. With the $10 back from register rewards, it could end up being a pretty good deal.

  4. Can you also use the 2 of the $1 Off one hersheys dark bar along with the January Coupon book $1 off 2 Hersheys bars? That would make them free since they are on sale 2 for $2... :)

  5. Hi Tiffany, Here in St Louis, the CVS's just opend this weekend. We are learning how to shop there.

Walgreens will take some patience in St Louis. I hope you have a better experience at the stores you shop.

  6. Hi Shannon - I sure thought about the Pepsi deal, but couldn't figure out how to accomplish it and still stay under $5 out of pocket. I agree it's a great deal especially with the rebate.

  8. I think the best deal is the Planters nuts for 50 cent. Man what a deal on that. Between cashews at Dierbers and Peanuts at Wags this week I will be all set for nuts for a year. The buy 2 bags of chips and get the cheese or salsa free was an awesome deal to go along with the pepsi deal.

  10. I learned something today doing the Planter's deal...the Planter's Wag coupon (from the book) counts as a manufacturer's coupon and is included in the "coupon count". Yikes. No wonder I've been having problems...I thought it would act like an in-ad coupon. Kelly

  11. If you live in IL, you have to buy the Coors to get the rebate.

  12. Your posts are inspiring me to try Wags deals again. My problem is that the one near me (Rock Hill) is always out of the deal items. The cashiers are nice and friendly but if the product isn't in the store, too bad. Maybe I need to try another store?

  13. Kelly - that has been happening alot lately with the Walgreens Qs. If you give the Mfg. first and Walgreens Qs after that, it should solve your problem.

  14. Hi Kelly & Andrea - Interesting. I'm going Walgreens this after noon for nuts. I always give my Walgreens coupons to the cashier last like Andrea said. I'll try it both ways and see what happens.

  15. The Wags I go to started asking for the wags Q's first. I just nicely ask the cashier to scan them last so she doesn't have to void the entire transaction and that usually works.

  16. Hi Rock Hill shopper,

Walgreens deals have been fantastic the last few months, and the stores I shop have been well stocked for the most part - much better than in the past. But, it all depends on how many other deal seekers shop at the store you do.

The good thing about Walgreens in this area, is they are on about every other corner.

  17. I've done that too Judy. If I check out with one of the cashiers that wants to scan Wags coupons first, I keep them hidden until they have scanned the manufacturer coupons.

  18. I say oh wait I forgot I have a few more coupons and then that is one way to scan them last.

  19. From my experience, when there's gonna be an overage and the cashier scans the Wags Q first, most times the Manufacturer's Q won't scan. :I
