I Saved 67% This Week

My parents were in town for a few days this week. It is so nice to have a stocked pantry and freezer when extra people are at the house. All I did was stop at Aldi for more milk, eggs and berries, and I was all set for guests.

I took my parents grocery shopping to Dierbergs & Schnucks while they were here. My parents were quite happy to walk out of Dierbergs with a bag of groceries for 85 cents. I included a picture and details of their shopping at the end of my post. They did better than I did this week, saving 91%.

Schnucks
Before coupons & sales: $29.82
Total spent: $1.54
Total saved: $28.28 or 95%

Dierbergs
Total before coupons & sales: $61.04
Total spent: $16.31
Total saved: $44.73 or 73%

Hy-Vee
I grew up shopping at Hy-Vee and still love their Iowa pork chops. Since my parents were coming to visit, I checked Hy-Vee's online ad. Woo Hoo! Iowa chops on sale for $1.99 lb. I placed a delivery order - shipping and handling was free.

Schnucks price: $28.96
Total spent: $11.35
Total saved: $17.62 or 61%

Aldi
I didn't get a picture of my second trip to Aldi this week, where I purchased two more gallons of milk, eggs and strawberries.

Before coupons & sales: $30.25
Total spent: $20.50
Total saved: $9.75 or 32%

Weekly Totals
Total before coupons & sales: $150.07
Total spent: $49.70
Total saved: $100.37 or 67
%

My parents' shopping trip
Before coupons & sales: $60.13
Total spent: $5.41
Total saved: $54.72 or 91%

  1. Which Hy-vee did you order from? Do they ship any type of meat you want to order? I have also liked Hy-vee b/c I grew up in Illinois. I'm interested in learning more about their ordering online. thanks!

  2. Jenny - Sorry if I was unclear in my post. My parents shopped for me in Cedar Falls, Ia. and brought the meat with them when they came to visit this week.

It sounds like you miss shopping at the VEE as much as I do.
