Walgreens $5 Scenario - Week of July 19th

You can pick up a ton of school/office supplies this week at Walgreens for very little money and you won't have to print or clip a coupon.

If you were lucky and had the $1 off 3 Scotch tape coupon in the 7/12/09 SmartSource insert - your deal is even better. Sorry, St Louisans, it wasn't in the Post-Dispatch.

When you do multiple transactions, I would suggest checking out at the Cosmetic's register. The cashier in this area is usually not very busy with customers, and will probably have more patience for multiple transactions.

Transaction #1
Purchase (1) Pilot G2 Gel Pens $1
= $1 out of pocket + receive $1 Register Reward

Transactions #2 to #5
Repeat transaction #1 (4) more times because you get only (1) Pilot Register Reward per transaction.

Transaction #6
Purchase (4) pocket folders .36
Purchase (4) poster boards .36
Purchase (3) #2 pencils .27
Purchase (5) Paper Mate Mechanical Pencils .95
Purchase (2) Paper Clips .38
Purchase (4) Scotch Transparent Tapes $1.56
Purchase (2) Scotch Mailers $1.18
Use (5) $1 Register Rewards from Pilot Pens
= .06 out of pocket

Price of merchandise before sales $39.81
Total out of pocket: $5.06 or 87% savings

  2. Hi Jeri, I took you up on your challenge. I took my teenage kids and made them help out. We bought 8 G2 pen packs before we even got started. Three registars were open. I had my eye on the folders but I wasn't crazy about them. We found a rebate deal on the Bic A I pencils. Try for free. You can purchase up to 3 packs @ 4.99 and get a rebate for the entire deal. Also the Mitchum with the coupon was 1.99(the ones I grabbed had 33% more), I might have had to buy two...I got a two dollar off two more Mitchums for the next transaction. Anyway, I spent about 28.00 and will get 15.00 back for the rebate (I don't mind that when it is for free, plus the two dollars for Mitchum which I already spent. So, two Mitchum for two dollars. It is a deal for me because my husband uses it. The kids had fun with me making the challange enjoyable. Nancy H.

  3. Great job, Nancy and kids!

It's fun when the kids get on board with saving money. My kids were easy to "train" - my husband was another story. He loves how much I am saving, but everytime he goes to the store items mysteriously end up in the cart that aren't on the shopping list.
