Saved 90% This Week

Kudos to both Walgreens and Target this week. They both had plenty of the sale items in stock. I usually shop on Sunday because I never expect them to have products left later in the week, but my stores on Friday were still well stocked.

Walgreens
I started the week with $10 in Register Rewards and ended with $33. While taking the picture, I noticed the $2 peelie coupon on one of my Zantacs. Oh no, I'll have to buy more Zantac tomorrow!

Before coupons & sales: $108.77
Total spent: $1.66
Total saved: $107.11 for 98%

Target
I'm getting use to picking up dog food for almost no money. I hope the trend continues.

Before coupons & sales: $94.50
Total spent: $2.72
Total saved: $92.78 for 97%

Schnucks
I couldn't come up with a good shopping plan for Shop 'n Save this week, so I headed to Schnucks Twin Oaks store to take advantage of them matching Shop 'n Save's $10 off $50 Thursday. It was worth the drive this week.

Before coupons & sales: $73.85
Total spent: $16.55
Total saved: $57.30 for 78%

Aldi
Comparable Schnucks price: $9.27
Aldi price: $7.30
Total saved: $1.97 for 21%

Weekly Totals
Before coupons & sales: $286.39
Total spent: $28.23
Total saved: $258.16 for 90%

Totals since April 1st
Total spent: $1275.98 ($44 weekly average)
Total saved: $5387.18 ($185 weekly average)

Readers' Pic
Nancy sent me a picture of her Walgreens shopping this week.

Three transactions, $3.49 out of pocket and $25 Register Rewards to spend next week.

Way to go, Nancy!

Email pictures of your shopping trips to me and I will include them in my next post. I love seeing how much other people save.

  1. Now someone told Ann Marie over at Coupon Deals and More that Kmart B$15 and receive a $5 cat on Clorox products produced another $5 coupon on the receipt. So I took advantage of it today.

    B2 Clorox Wipe #70 $8.00
    B2 Bathroom Cleaner 24 oz. $7.00

Used (4) $.50 MQ, except the two on the wipes were meant for another size. Oops! There is a B1G1 MQ on a site for teachers and you must register to DL the coupon.

  2. I love your blog. I like how specific and forthright your posts are. I have some questions. I know you're busy, but maybe some other folks can chip in or you can direct me to a place where they are better answered. How do you determine what is a really good deal? I had used up my air wick coupons already, and it's obvious it was better to save them. I know there is a cycle, but do you track it or just keep note? I see you keep to $50 a week, how do you determine what to stock pile? Finally, any tips on shopping for teenagers (we do Plato's closet already, and Goodwill, etc.), sporting goods (soccer and field hockey are budget busters) OR tips for the Holidays. Right now, I'm keeping my eyes out for internet deals to combine with rebate sites. Thanks for any help! Trish

  3. Anonymous,

The week the coupons come out isn't always the best time to use them. Unless it's free or extremely cheap, I hold on to my coupons. The stores run sales on those product a couple of weeks after the coupon comes out. They figure that the coupons are used to boost sales when released. Then they put the product on sale to boost sales after most coupons are considered forgotten about or lost. LOL. Not this girl.

  4. kas - Thas is a great deal. I'm not a Kmart shopper (unless they double coupons_) so I don't even think about their deals. I probably should pay more attention.

  5. Trish - Tammy has good advise with hanging on to your coupons. I almost never use a coupon unless the product is also on sale.

I set my $50 budget and work to purchase as much as I can within the $50. Then we eat what is in the house. If I bought Ragu on sale one week and was happy with the price I paid, and it was a little cheaper the next week somewhere else I don't fret about it.

You will start to remember what you paid for products and then you'll never want to pay more than that price again.

I have two teen boys. Boys are much easier on a clothing budget than girls would be. I agree sporting goods are expensive.

Thank goodness they don't play ice hockey. A friend told me the cost of hockey warps your mind. She was following her son in the ambulance from the rink, hoping they didn't have to cut the equipment off.

  6. Thanks for the tips. I loved the ice hockey story. It was the one sport we said an emphatic no to when my oldest son wanted to try. The equipment was too expensive (he was already a bit old to start). I need to pick a dollar amount and stick with it. Does anybody have a good deal price for chocolate chips? Thanks everyone. Trish

  7. Trish - A few week ago I bought the small bags, 6 oz, at Deirbergs for .50 after coupon. That is the best price I've seen for chocolate chips. Aldi has the 12 oz. bags for $1.49, so anywhere between $1 and $1.50 for 12 oz.is probably as low as you'll be able to get them.

Chocolate chips aren't something I see on sale often, but between now and the end of the year will be the best time to find them on sale.
