Lots of great prices on fruit this week at Aldi. I can never pass up a fresh pineapple for 99 cents, so I bought two. I've read that you can freeze fresh pineapple. I'm debating going back for more to put in the freezer. Has anyone tried this before?

If you haven't shopped at Aldi, or it has been a while:
1. Make sure you have a quarter to unlock a shopping cart. The carts are like luggage carts at the airport. You rent them for a quarter, and you get your quarter back when you return the cart.
2. Take your own bags. Aldi does not provide free bags for your groceries.
3. Aldis now accepts debit cards.
4. Aldis does not accept coupons
Thanks for getting this info up so early, Jeri! My Aldi's ad doesn't come in the mail until Tues. I was going to be near Aldi's today but didn't really need to stop unless they had any good produce. Yeah for the .99 Gala apple bags--I was down to one lonely apple! I also bought 2 pineapples. I've never frozen them before. Mostly because it doesn't last long around here once I cut them. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly - You're welcome.
ReplyDeleteMy pineapple usually doesn't last long enough to freeze either, but for this price, I'm thinking about stopping back at Aldi, picking up a few more, and getting them in the freezer before anyone can eat them.
Has anyone froze green peppers? I dont really use it other than in chili but would love to have it cut up and ready to go.

Hi Jennifer,
ReplyDeleteI haven't frozen green peppers, but I have frozen celery and onions to use in cooking and they work find.
I checked StillTasty.com and they say, "Slice or chop peppers, spread in a single layer on cookie tray and freeze, then promptly place in airtight containers or heavy-duty greezer bags and return to freezer." Freezer time 10-12 months.
Thanks Jeri! With the sale price on green peppers this week I will definately be trying this.

When I saw the green pepper on sale I though of you Jennifer. I'm going to freeze a few also.
