Saved 70% This Week

Besides going to Aldi on Sunday, I didn't get out to shop until Friday evening. If anyone is looking for a quiet time to shop, Friday evening is it.

Schnucks
What I thought was going to be a good trip to Schnucks turned out to be a great trip. The boxes of Wheatables had peelie coupons on them for a FREE box of Nut Crisps when you buy Wheatables. All I ended up paying was .50 a box for the Wheatables; the Nut Crisps and BBQ sauce were free. I didn't have any problem using the $1 printable coupon on the BBQ sauce even though it made them free.

Before sales & coupons: $35.44
Spent: $2.00
Saved: $33.44 for 94% savings

Dierbergs
I took my husband with me to Dierbergs so we double dipped on the web-only coupon for Tostitos. Before checking out, I surveyed which cashiers were working and carefully picked the one who looked most coupon friendly, but my husband headed to another aisle. He doesn't realise it makes a difference. I had to wait for him while his cashier read every word of the few coupons he was using and called up to the front desk to see if she should allow a $1 Fisher Nuts printable coupon. Your experience at a store shouldn't depend on the cashier you choose, but it does.

Before sales & coupons: $59.23
Spent: $18.28
Save: $40.85 for 69% savings

Sappington Farmers' Market
Yes, I did buy some real food this week. The rest of my purchases were not the most nutritious.

Comparable Schnucks price: $13.13
Spent: $5.75
Saved: $7.38 for 56%

Walgreens
I had no desire to purchase Off Clip-on Mosquito Repellent, but couldn't resist taking the Walgreens' ad in last Sundays inserts to a Walgreens that readers (coupons.girl and Katy) have had so much trouble using coupons at. Boy, were they correct in relaying how difficult coupon shopping is at that location. I ended up speaking with an assistant manager who told me every story in the book and even a few new ones. She told me the computers at her store were programmed differently for coupons than other locations. Really?

But overall, the experience was one of my best shopping trips ever. While I was talking to the assistant manager, another shopper was trying to use her B1G1 coupon for the Old Spice Body Wash. Of course, two shoppers at the beauty counter having problems using their coupons at the same time have to start comparing notes. The other shopper was Katy! It was so fun to meet a reader. Coupon.girl, you should have taken me up on that ride to Walgreens.

Before sales & coupons: $9.99
Spent: $4.99
Saved: $5.00 for 50% savings

Aldi
Comparable Schnucks price: $13.06
Spent: $8.69
Saved: $4.37 for 33%

My Splurge
My husband took the crazy picture. I don't know why he put the hamburger buns in the fish packaging. Really?

Spent: $6.68

Weekly Totals
Before sales & coupons: $130.85
Spent: $39.81
Saved: $91.04 for 70% savings

Year To Date Totals
Spent: $852.74
($43 weekly average)
Saved: $2713.31 ($136 weekly average)

Splurge Funds: $138.66

For those who don't read my blog on a regular basis, my splurge funds are the difference between what I've actually spent and my $50 budget. I use it for those items I never find on sale or that I don't have coupons for.

  1. Thanks a lot for all your efforts, for taking the time and spending OOP money to coupon shop at Wags Hampton! Do you think they are now going to change their own store's "absurd" coupon policy? It's really a pain coupon shopping there. :( Good thing you were there to back up Katy! :)

  2. Hi coupon.girl - My husband decided he probably needed the Off Clip-On for when he goes to Wisconsin this summer, so it won't go to waste.

If I were you, I'd still plan on shopping at another store. Talking to those people there is like talking to a brick wall. I didn't help Katy at all, she left the Old Spice at the store. I'm going to try and talk to Corp. and the regional office. I'll keep you posted if I get anywhere.

  3. hello, it's "katy"!
i was so excited to meet "Coupon STL!" and was definitely glad that she was there to be a back-up. as soon as i got home i emailed Walgreens about my experience to ask for their 'Official Coupon Policy," and here's what i got back.

    Dear Katie,

Thank you for taking your time to contact our Corporate Offices. We appreciate hearing from our customers and value all comments received.

Unfortunately, we do not have a coupon policy, rather "guidelines" we follow.

Again, thank you for contacting our corporate office. We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your comments.

WHAT A JOKE! i'm steaming mad at Walgreens and just as soon as i can use up all of my RR's i'm going to be a CVS devotee entirely. I'm so tired of all their crazy stories! They can't keep anything straight and what kind of corporation only as 'guidelines?' I also requested that someone from Wags contact me to discuss further. I'm so tired of being made to feel like i'm doing something wrong for being smart enough to save money!

It was great to meet you Coupon STL!!
    -Katie

  4. I am having trouble at my Wags in colllinsville, il. The register rewards for Claritin, Zantac, and Tums didnt print. The checker called the manager and he wasnt much help until I told him that he could return all the products and to please give me a full refund and the coupons as well. He told me that since I was using coupons thats why the RR wouldnt print. Hmmm. I dont think so! Magically 2 $3 RR printed for him, and he credited the other two to my account. I wasnt really thrilled but now know not to go at night when he is on shift. So everyone beware of the Wags on the Beltline in Collinsville.

P.S. A CVS is being built right across the street from Wags. I am thrilled! Hopefully they will be better at customer service.

  5. Friday evening IS a peaceful time to shop at Schnucks - was there last night. I also had no trouble using a $1 IP for the KC Masterpiece. I also got free Kitten Chow, Oscar Meyer Deli Creations cracker combos on clearance for $1.50 and I had $1 coupons, and bagged salads were marked down to .99.

  6. Hi Katy - It was so fun running into you at Walgreens. Too bad Walgreens is such a problem to shop at at that location. My take on "guidelines" is - every manager for himself. What every they want to do.

I don't think Walgreens has any ideas how one (or a few) stores can taint customers views of the enitre chain. Keep us posted if Walgreens contacts you. See you at CVS!

  7. Hi Three Good Eggs - I love it when managers give you every story in the book and finally, when you convince them to re-ring the merchandise on a different register it spilts out the RR.

I'm sure CVS will have better customer service than Walgreens. They have such a different corporate culture.
