Saved 67% This Week

I didn't save any huge percentage this week, but I'm pleased with my purchases. It is easy to get wrapped up in how much you saved. More importantly, it's if you can stay within budget and feed the family.

I was hoping to get back to Walgreens to pick up some more deals, but that didn't happen. I might try tomorrow and see if they have any of this week's great deals still in the store.

Before sales & coupons: $27.24
Spent: $0.69
Saved: $26.55 for 97%

Perfect timing for Dierbergs to have boneless skinless chicken breasts on sale. I made sure I purchased at least $10. I'll send in my Dierbergs receipt for the Bud-Light beer rebate.

Before sales & coupons: $49.59
Spent: $19.05
Saved: $30.54 for 62%

I loved the deal on Planter's Trail Mix. My entire family likes trail mix, but I don't usually spend the money on it. What a treat for 50 cents!

Before sales & coupons: $26.72
Spent: $10.89
Saved: $15.83 for 59%

Comparable Schnucks price: $16.66
Spent: $9.48
Saved: $7.18 for 43%

My Splurge
Strawberries from the Tower Grove Farmers Market - $4.00. And, they were worth every penny!

Weekly Totals
Before sales & coupons: $120.21
Spent: $40.11
Saved: $80.10 for 67% savings

Year to Date Totals
Spent: $944.31
($43 weekly average)
Saved: $80.10 ($134 weekly average)

Splurge Funds: $147.08

For those who don't read my blog on a regular basis, my splurge funds are the difference between what I've actually spent and my $50 budget. I use it for those items I never find on sale or that I don't have coupons for.

  1. Jeri, I'm always curious looking at your weekly buys that there seems to not be enough food to feed a family for a week at a time. Is this because you stockpile the stuff you need on weeks it is on sale and thus have it on hand when you need it later, or does your family eat a lot of meals (like breakfast or lunch) away from home? I'm curious because I want to put the crackdown on our budget but there's no way my family could get by with it. Even with heavy, heavy coupon usage and maximizing $10/$50 days and entertainment book coupons, I usually come in $120-$150 a week. That gives us plenty, we never eat it ALL in one week, but it's hard to predict what we will/won't consume.

  2. Hi couponmama - I agree, some weeks it doesn't look like I've bought enough food to feed the family, but the pantry and freezer are full.

I feed the three of us - myself, husband and teenage son. I hate to admit it, but we aren't breakfast eaters. I'm lucky to get my teen out of bed and through the shower by the time he has to leave before 7 am. My husband and I grab coffee in the morning.

My husband usually takes leftovers for lunch, my son buys lunch at school (Now that he is in high school, he wouldn't be caught dead taking his lunch.) I just grab something quick or leftovers for lunch.

So, that leaves me only planning for dinners and snacks. I plan my meals with what I already have. That leaves me to buy perishables and what I can get the best deal on with my weekly budget. The longer you coupon the less you have to buy each week. Then, when a really good buy comes up you stock up.

  3. Hi, Ms. Jeri! Am just wondering about your Wags purchases. You bought (2) Ecotrin, how come you didn't "make-money"? :)

I was able to print (2)Qs but unfortunately I was only able to use one because when I went back the following day, they were all gone. I know I shouldn't be shopping at Kingshiway cor Chippewa store because of their "one day, one RR item per customer" rule but it's the nearest one to me so I'm just abiding by their "rules". Anyways, I still "earned" $2 on the Ecotrin so it's better than nothing. :)

  4. Hi coupon.girl - I did end up $4.50 ahead with RR. I should have mentioned that under the caption.
