ReplyDeleteI had a not so happy experience, yesterday. I was going to do 3 transactions (because I waited too long and my coupons for the lysol hand soap system expired). I checked out at the makeup desk where the lady had said, "come over here when you're ready." I started off with, "don't hate me, I have multiple transactions."
ReplyDelete"They don't like us doing that, we don't normally, but I will cause there's no one else."
First transaction, Gillette fusion proglide $9.99 - $4Q, using $5 RR. When she scanned the RR she said it wouldn't take it b/c the pre-tax amount wasn't high enough. I thought that can't be right b/c 9.99-4=5.99. duh right? well, to appease here (instead of fighting it) I handed over one of my pencils that I was going to use for the following transactions.
2nd: Veripur + pencil. 3.99+.20-$4 RR
3rd: 3x eggs @ .99 + 2x Halls - Wags Q - 2x 0.50Q. Before we started ringing these up, she asked if it was the final transaction "because they don't like us doing this." and there was one customer that was just looking around and asked her a question but really didn't look like she was waiting to check out.
I had thought that this transaction would be over the 3.99 but here's my mistake. I didn't do my math exactly right and I was PENNIES away from the 3.99 RR. So here's where the checker snookered me and PRESSURED me into getting one of the 99c items that were around the register. Because I had already used my 2 pencils and didn't have an extra tiny purchase in my basket.
I really felt pressured and snookered by this checker. Good news, I still got 3 dozen eggs, 2 packs halls defense drops, hand sanitizer, razor, and stinking 99c eyeliner for a grand total of $2.14. But it could have been a dollar less!
I nearly want to email walgreens.
Hi Emily - Sorry you had such an agravating trip to Walgreens. But, you have to be happy bring home so much merchandise for so little money.
ReplyDeleteI've gotten to the point I only check out with certain cashiers. You start to learn their schedules and when you find a cashier that is pleasent and coupon friendly, you remember them.
Don't feel pressured to purchased something you don't want to. In your situations where you came up short, I would have reached into my bag and pulled out a pencil I had already paid for and told her to ring it up again.
I would have never thought of that!! To ring up something already purchased, again! Great idea.
ReplyDeleteI came home and told husband and he says, "If they didn't want you to play the game, they would have stopped it years ago." My mom says at the first sign of trouble I should ask for the manager because the manager wants the customer's business but the checker doesn't really care and is only there for their own hour of work & pay.
Hi Emily - You learn all the tricks to make your shopping expierence easier at Walgreens after you have shopped there for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your mother's advice, but it is Walgreens. Some managers can be nastier than the cashiers. I hope you are in an area where there are lots of Walgreens. If one store is not coupon friendly, chances are the next store is.
