If you haven't shopped at Aldi, or it has been a while:
1. Make sure you have a quarter to unlock a shopping cart. The carts are like luggage carts at the airport. You rent them for a quarter, and you get your quarter back when you return the cart.
2. Take your own bags. Aldi does not provide free bags for your groceries.
3. Aldis now accepts debit cards.
4. Aldis does not accept coupons

  1. I keep going to Aldi hoping to find $0.79 eggs, but sadly, mine have been at $0.99 for several weeks now.

  2. Jeri, when I got my newspaper yesterday ($1 at Sams Club) there was an insert for a subscription to the PD. It's $0.75/week for the Sunday paper delivered. To subscribe online, go to http://www.stltoday.com/FS31.

Here's the fine print (beware of the automatic renewal at the "standard" price!):

OFFER VALID FOR NEW SUBSCRIBERS ONLY. Offer valid only where home delivery is available. Prices include any applicable tax. Subscribers may pick up the newspaper to avoid delivery costs. Contact Customer Service for more information. At the expiration of the introductory term, your subscription will automatically renew at the regular home delivery rates unless you notify Customer Service otherwise. By signing up for the EZpay promotion at $1.79 per week (75¢ per week for Sunday only), you agree to be charged on the card number provided $7.76 ($3.25 for Sunday only) on the 19th of every month for a total of 12 months (52 weeks). Your first payment will be deducted at initial subscription sign-up. If the 19th falls on a weekend or holiday, you will be charged the next business day. After the initial 52 week EZpay promotion, you agree to be billed every month at the regular low EZpay rate to be charged to the same card number. EZpay may not be available in all areas. You may cancel this automatic billing option at any time by either calling us at 888-785-3201 or writing to us at St. Louis Post-Dispatch/Attn: 3rd Floor Cash Processing/900 N. Tucker Blvd./St. Louis, MO/63101.

  4. Even Wags have floating prices on items, including milk. I paid $1.99 for a gallon of 2% last night at a Wags. A store on Watson will be cheaper then an ad price, since SFM is low on milk prices. On the other hand, before Dierbergs expanded its Dean line, I usually paid $.50 less then CVS current price on a gallon of 2%.

My main grip with Aldi is that management knows the stores will be crowded around the first of the month and the weekend and not schedule extra cashiers.

  5. Staci & Courtney - Thanks for the info. I shop at the Holly Hill's store. (on Gravois just northeast of Kingshighway)

Since prices obviously differ between stores, I'm surpirsed my egg prices are lower because there isn't any other grocery store very close to that location. Do either of you see a trend between the pricing?

Well, add Adli to my list (like Walgreens and Target) that prices vary between stores.

  8. kas, I always shop at Aldi on Sunday, and yes they are busy. The store I shop seem to have enough cashiers, but the store is so small if the line gets long you can't maneuver through the store. So they do run all three check outs much of the time - at least on Sunday.

Maybe I don't mind checking out at Aldi since it's so much better than SNS. There has been many a time I wish I could tell the checker at SNS - don't arrange my merchandise, just get it in the basket like they do at Aldi.

  9. Jeri - I can't say as I have noticed a pattern. I just got my Aldi ad in the mail today and it lists eggs as $0.89. I'll have to see if it's $0.79, $0.89 or $0.99 when I go.
