Other Grocery Stores in St Louis

Here is what I see as the best "cherry picking" items at the other grocery stores in town. I don't include all the match-ups, but only items you might want to pick up, if one of these stores is convenient to your location.

If you see items I missed, or if you know of great deals at stores I haven't listed, please leave the information in the comments section.

  1. While at Market Place, I check the corn beef. Pre-packaged and it has up to 30% solution, plus probably a good chunk of fat. That $5.00/10 GM MQ doesn't work for the Yoplait or anything else that has 'NEW' by it. Only found factory bagged fish and the prices werne't to my liking. Good price ($.49 lb.) on the chicken leg quarters.

  2. Mid-Towne IGA in St. Charles has 50 oz. bottles of Purex, 2/$5. Use the BOGO coupon from the coupon inserts this week to get 2/$2.50. Also, FYI, this store no longer takes IP coupons. :-(

  3. Hi kas, I love good corn beef. I've bought the stuff in the bag before and know it's not the good stuff. So, where does good corn beef come from?

Hi Kelly - Thanks for update on IP's at Mid-Town and for finding the Purex deal.

  4. Jeri, what one gets in a Reuben Sandwich came pre-cooked, hardly needed to be trimmed and cut on a slicer. Beside restuarants, a good deli will have better corn beef, except its ain't cheap. Now at stores, right before St. Pat Day is when the prices on corn beef, cabbage and potatoes drop. The point cut is what one buys to save money. But, like opting for ground round over chuck, the premium flat cut brisket is more costly per pound.

Beside corned beef, one could throw cut up cabbage and potatoes in with a ham bone that still has some meat. Don't care for the smell of boiling cabbage. Then cut the head into wedges, place sections into a shallow metal/glass pan, add seasonings and some water and cover with foil. Bake in a medium heat (325F) oven for awhile ( I forgot the time required).
