Walgreens Field Notes - Week of 3/27/11

A few additional comments for what is going on with Walgreens sales this week.  See this week's Deals and coupon match-ups HERE.
  • Hershey's Register Reward  - There is a miss print in the ad.  Instead of issuing a RR for off your next order, if you purchase $10 of Hershey's you'll get a RR for $5 off you Next Hershey Purchase.
  • Snickers Eggs  -  I purchased seven and use two $1 off 2 coupons; it works fine and no beeps at the register.  My store had a good supply of Snickers Eggs, so I didn't feel like I was clearing the shelves purchasing seven.
  • April Coupon Book - The new month has started at Walgreens.  Make sure you pick up the new Coupon Book on the ad stand
  • Coupons Beeping - The Cosmetic counter clerk was at lunch when I was shopping, so I had to check out at the front register.  Less coupons beep at that register at the store I shop, but my coupons for Edge still beeped.  Who knows what's up with all the beeping coupons?

If you have any additional info for Walgreens this week, please leave a comment.

  1. my coupon for edge also beeped. I hear it beeped at CVS too. Some are saying it is coded incorrectly.

  2. I purchased the edge yesterday and it did not beep.

  3. Read on another website that the edge has two different bar codes. If you don't want to bother with a beep, choose the product that matches up with your coupon (first set of numbers).

  4. How interesting about the two bar codes on Edge.

I've talked to a Walgreens manager who told me if any coupon beeps, his employees can't accept the coupon because he won't get reinbursed. I think I'll clip a few more Edge coupons and head back to his store. It will be an interesting conversation.

  5. What??? Half of the coupons I use at Walgreens beep and they are for the product I purchased. They usually just put them through at my Walgreens. Wags really doesn't have their act together.

  6. Hi Lynda - Exactly! He's never there on Sunday when I shop, and the cashier I check out with always puts mine through.

The funny part is, I actually like this manager and we've gotten to be good friends. I'm going to take Edge coupons in to show him what actually happens with coupons. Hopefully, I'll be able to educate him a bit.

  7. The $1 off 2 skintimate beeped for me but the cashier still put it through

  8. I found that the travel size RR is for only those items purchased. I purchased 8 - Dial lotion and 2 Listerine and did not get the RR. Anyone else try the travel-size deal?

  9. Hi Angie - I haven't tried this deal. I've been reading a bit online, and some stores have shelf tags on which products are included in the RR and others don't. But, not all products are included.

Sorry, I'm not any better help.

  10. The beeping coupons drive me batty! Sunday, the WAGS close to my house, refused ALL the ones that beeped - which was EVERY single q I used, AND the RR that they had given me the week before! I was polite and explained that if EVERY q beeps, it's got to be their register and not the qs. An arguement ensued. The manager sided with the cashier. I told them to cancel the order and I took my qs/RR/WAGS booklet qs back. Then, went to the WAGS 1 mile down the road, again, ALL qs beeped, but that cashier put them right thru. I asked him what was going on?! And told him about my first experience. He said, well, ALL qs beep for us to, but as long as they are used correctly, we are to TAKE them. He said as soon as they get remodeled, they are hoping the new registers work properly. SIGH. Wish WAGS would get their act together.

  11. Hi Anonymous - Unbelievable, but then again, it was Walgreens.

CVS has moved into St Louis, they might not be on every other corner like Walgreens, but from what I've heard, they will be.

I would think the managers at the "good" stores would be very concerned about the type of service people get at other stores. It will hurt them too, as soon as there is more competition.

  12. I had this happen today! Every week I tell myself Wags just isn't worth the hassle, I am not sure why I went back today.
Today I used a different one than usual and the employee spent the entire time rolling her eyes and sighing as though it was MY fault that the coupons that were absolutely correct for everything I was purchasing (except the Skintimate - they were out of cans and I got the bottle, which I told her before she started with the transaction AND I told her if it beeped to just skip that one)! She ended up having to run the transaction THREE TIMES - I am still not sure why. The whole time my 4 year old was getting very antsy and annoyed. Once again, I am sooo glad that CVS moved in - even closer to me than Wags! Woohoo!
I did end up with a good deal at Wags though - the Biore had a RR for $5 wyb 2 products, and I used the B1G1 Q, got 2 colgate, 1 speedstick, 1 skintimate, 1 pack of large envelopes and 1 edge shave gel for $9 oop with Qs, got back $12 in RR

  13. I hate those type of cashiers!! I did the Biore deal too :) I picked the Edge that was coded to the coupon & it still beeped

  14. Hi pixie_bit and Rachelstl - Overall I've had good luck at Walgreens. I tend to shop only a couple of stores on a regular basis and at the same time of the week. I will only check out with certain cashiers.

But, it shouldn't have to be that way.

  15. fyi - the Edge coupon beeped at CVS too. The guy said it had been doing it all week and chalked it up to a misprint in the coding... then he gave me my $.55 off.

  16. And not sure if anyone else got an answer, but there will be no more Walgreen reusable bags in the foreseeable future. They tested positive for lead (I am sure the ALL do, frnakly!) so the have all been pulled and they are trying to find a different producer.

  17. Hi ArmyMom - I've heard most of the reusable bags have tested postitive for lead. I love my reusable bags, but between the lead and the germs that are growing in them, I'm wondering if I should use them at all.
