Dierbergs Deals 6/15/10 - 6/21/10

This week's Dierbergs ad is good example of a phantom sale. Oreos are advertised this week for $2.99 - a whole 10 cents cheaper than the normal $3.09 price, or a 3% savings. Just because an item is in an ad, doesn't mean it's a good price. You have to know a deal when you see it by knowing your "buy price" for an item. The longer you coupon shop the better you will get at picking out the deals in an ad.

But, just because one item isn't a deal, doesn't mean the entire ad is made up of phantom sales. Anytime I can pick up a can of cashew for $1.50 and FREE chips, I'm a happy shopper.

Dierbergs Coupon Policy is now online. Check it out HERE.
I highlight only the best deals. Take a look at Dierbergs' full ad HERE.

  1. Just a question for someone...if you do the General Mills instant savings and get $4 off your next purchase, can you go back and buy more General Mills products and again receive your $4 if you use the $4 catalina from the previous purchase? Just wondering?? Thanks!!!!!!!

  2. It is an instant savings, it comes off before you pay so there is no coupon to use on your next purchase. Therefore you could do it as many times and you wanted.

  3. The $.40 off printable coupons for Nature's Valley and Fiber One bars say, "Do not double or triple."

  4. Yep, the $4 comes off instantly. We're going back for more fruit snacks today.

And yes, you do have to know prices, esp with Dierbergs. I buy my Weight Watchers yogurt at Wal Mart, every day price is 50 cents so even though Dierergs has it on "sale" I can get a much better deal at Wal Mart.

I've gotten really discouraged with Dierbergs and their "coupon policy" that I really have been shying away from there unless it's a really, really good deal.

  5. Hi Kim - How are you? Until the coupon seminar, I didn't know Dierbergs had their coupon policy on their website. Thanks goes to Jennifer for finding it.

I don't know if their policy has always been not to double coupons that state that on them, or if it's something new. I've never paid attention to DND on coupons and don't ever remember one not doubling automatically at Dierbergs.

I've lived in St Louis for 18 years and the value of coupon they will double hasn't changed. If this is something new, I can't imagine what the little old ladies (one older than me) will say when they don't get their .40 coupon doubled.

Let me see if I can find out more.

  6. Hi Anonymous - I agree. You have to know your prices, but I think that is everywhere not just Dierbergs.

I've had good success using coupons at Dierbergs. What expriences have you had that's gotten you so discouraged?

  7. At 2 different Dierberg's today, I received a $2.50 Catalina for buying 4 fruit snacks! This was in addition to the $4 instant savings!!!

  8. Got 3 free bags of the Lays Kettle chips this week (3 separate trips). Also 2 boxes of Corn Flakes for $1.19 each after $1/2 coupon.

  9. I took my husband to Dierbergs with me so we could double dip on the GM instant savings and the free chips, and between the two of us we got 8 cereals and 2 bags of chips. He was griping at me because we didn't have any milk, and I balked at having to buy milk at Dierbergs because I usually always get it at Aldi's. He laughed at me and wondered why we were getting so much cereal if he couldn't have milk to eat it with. I told him I had been shopping all day--Aldi's just didn't make it on my list. So I caved and let him buy the milk. Imagine my surprise when I realized that the 1/2 gallon was actually the same price as Aldi's. I was amazed!

  10. Hi couponmama - Thanks for the heads up about the milk prices at Dierbergs. I'll have to check the gallon sizes. Your comment is a good reminder that even though one store might have the lowest price at one point in time that doesn't mean it might not change.

  11. i think the full gallon was higher though. but we only usually get the smaller size so that's ok for us.

  12. couponmama, makes me smile to know it's not only me who "victimized" a husband into "double dipping shopping" even though we were not successful with this at Dierbergs with our last trip (Free Oreo cookies thing experience).

We usually (knock on wood ;) make it through at ShopNSave and Wags. I still remember the first time I make hubby do it at Wags. I let him checked out way ahead of me so it won't look so obvious that we're "together" because of the limit 3 on the Wags coupon. So, he checked out with (3) similar items and (3) similar Manufacturer's coupons for them plus the (1) Wags coupon. But lol and behold, imagine my surprise when we got outside and he handed me back the (2) of the (3) Man. coupons. He said, (3) Man. coupons were all the same so he just use (1). I guess, I was not clear enough with my instructions. I told him to go back in and look for the manager so he could get a refund for the (2) coupons which he did and it made me so proud of him. :) Told him that whenever he checks out, no matter what, always hand ALL coupons I give him to the cashier. Don't keep any. :)

  13. Hi couponmama - You have about a year left of 1/2 gallons at your house. If you have a boy be prepared for the teen years. They can drink an entire gallon at a time - straight of of the jug.

  14. Hi coupon.girl - I'm laughing so hard. Your husband and mine must have been made from the same mold. Your story sounds exactly like what happens in our house. Why can't the believe we know what we are doing?

  15. Husbands are funny! I'm glad to know mine isn't the only one who messes up my coupons. When I went out of town for a couple days and had some OYNOs expiring, I gave them to my husband and told him to spend them and get himself some treats for the week. I called him to make sure he had used them and asked him what he got. "Oh so milk and bread and stuff." I almost had a heart attack. I was like, I gave you $30 in coupons and you managed to get milk and bread, must have been the most expensive milk and bread in the store. He laughed and said "yeah I always wondered what the most expensive stuff tasted like and you never let me buy it. Since it was free, why not?"
*Rolls eyes* Oh husbands. What I could have bought with that $30.....

On a different note, for those who are frequenting Dierbergs for free stuff, go check your store's clearance section. Mine had 4 compact i-motion freshmatic air fresheners there, clearanced for $3. I had exactly 4 coupons for $4. Sorry, I promise it was the only time I've ever been the dreaded "shelf-clearer" (although there are plenty of them already in my area!!) I love getting things like that and keeping them around for nice teacher/bus driver gifts, or for putting in cute gift baskets for people.

  16. Hahaha :). couponmama, your husband is really like my hubby! Whenever I have a RR to use, he would usually pick good and "not" on sale stuff at Wags. He would usually say, you said you have a RR to use so let's use them then. Ugghs. He doesn't seem to understand that the best way to use a RR is to roll them. :)
