The Post-Dispatch reprinted a Chicago Tribune article today on the Opinion page - Sale, Half Off!
From the article:
"Turns out grabbing that great deal is a more, um, intense emotional experience than previously imagined. Researchers in England say they tested supermarket customers' responses to offers of bargains on certain items such as milk and bread. The researchers discovered that finding a great deal, even on something as mundane as milk, can give people the same rush that "sexual arousal from watching pornography does," London's Daily Mail reported.
Can anyone really get that excited about half-off on a loaf of bread? As one online commenter put it: "If that's the best feeling someone can get, a sexual thrill over a tin of peas, they really need to get out more!"
I'm off to do some bargain shopping.

ReplyDeleteBut still I do love a good deal! I was all excited that Dierbergs had a bunch of gluten free stuff on their clearance shelf. ITs the little things.
I love a good deal! I not sure I get that excited, but get more frustrated when I pay full price and know I could have gotten a better deal!

ReplyDeleteSurely! It's thrilling! At first you may feel little odd as it needs some extra effort to organize coupons. But once your are accustomed, it is surely addictive.
ReplyDeleteHi All - I hope I didn't offend anyone by posting this, but I just couldn't pass on the article.
ReplyDeleteJanet - I won't tell your husband if you don't tell mine.

ReplyDeleteMy dear hubby might not give me a ride anymore if he reads this article. I meant, a ride in his car when am off to not-walkable couponing. ;) hehehehe...
That is really funny. I read an article a couple weeks ago when a woman was asking if her husband was an alcoholic. The answer was 'neither the amount he is drinking nor the frequency he drinks makes him an alcoholic. It is his attitude toward the drinking. If he recounts a "really good buzz" a long time later with fondness, he is probably an alcoholic. If he is chasing that buzz again, he is an alcoholic.'. At the time I thought,' I remember really great shopping deals with fondness and am ALWAYS chasing another great deal! Maybe I am a shopaholic!'. My husband always says he thinks I am
